Rep is gone?

It's all been (and continues to be) discussed to death, believe me. We're working on something new that will hopefully be more effective.

It is going to be hard to implement something that is controlled even the Mojo module was not effective. You can't really control who reps who and for what reasons.

No, you're wrong. It's because of all of the sissies who wouldn't give neg rep where neg rep was due that made the rep system meaningless. :twofinger

Now, if people had been required to give out 1 neg rep for every pos rep that they gave out, it would have kept balance in the system. :teeth

The "flaw" with rep is trying to score people and not posts. Even morons occassionaly posts sage advice, and even experts are wrong.

The responsibility for evaluating data has, does, and always will be the responsibility of the reader. Anything less is abdicating personal responsibility...the thing so many people bitch about. Can't have it both ways.

For me, it was completely obvious who was taking me seriously in the beginning and who was being a douche. Rep didn't mean to me what you guys apparently had originally intended it to.

Some people just got a lot of rep. pts. for being mean and other mean people seemed to get a crack out of it. Kind of like bullies with low self esteem, so they get off on dissing others to feel better about themselves. That was annoying about the rep.

This is very true, and I would very much like to see a post-rating system over a user-rating system, or at least some sort of hybrid.

That way, the specific forum doesn't matter--good posts in the Sink don't reflect on one's idiotic posts in General and vice versa.

Coincidence?

I guess nobody is correlating the fact that just this week, right AFTER BarfBash, MikeT was getting neg repped for his "pink" pictures, even though he clearly described the reasons in the first BarfBash Pic thread... Which then led several (including myself) to pos rep him for taking the pics/ posting/ starting the thread...

So if you were one of the douches that neg repped him, thank you so much jerk-off. :thumbdown
 
Rep doesn't work due to human psychology. We already have a pack mentality and it just promotes that further. Clicks promote their own and knock down commonly labled "enemies." Those who are not part of any click are labled outcasts and get it from both sides. Most of this isn't even done conciously.
