RiP Sir Patrick Stewart

I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Patrick when he did a one man show at the Hyde Street pier when I was a volunteer crew member on the schooner Alma.

For one generation, he was their Captain. For another generation, he was their Professor.

I remember going to a Star Trek convention at the Cow Palace years ago when he was there. I was glad I was able to see him live in person at that event.

Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick Stewart. Thank you for showing us a future which we need to earn, for embodying a leader with no moral ambiguity, whose honor and moral discipline guided his course, and his ship and crew. Thank you for all of the myriad other parts you've played throughout your life.

Thank you for your catwalk walk, and for the Pink Panthers, and all of the goodness that you contributed to.

O Captain, my Captain! This one hurts. Much love to you all.

He had a great sense of humor as seen during his appearances on the Graham Norton show.

He certainly "Made it so"....again and again and again.

Just previously started x-men series... :(

Had to look up an earlier post

The joke is a direct reference to a famous, iconic scene from Patrick Stewart’s time as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation (the two-part episode "Chain of Command"). [1]
  • The Scene: Picard is captured and brutally tortured by a Cardassian interrogator (played by David Warner), who shines lights into his face and tries to force him to hallucinate or lie and say he sees five lights when there are physically only four.
    • The Climax: At his breaking point, Picard screams his most famous line in defiance: "There! Are! Four! Lights!"
    • The Punchline: Lighting only four candles while claiming there are five (or vice versa, mimicking the interrogator's gaslighting) is a dark, affectionate Star Trek fan-in-joke honoring Stewart's passing by recreating the exact psychological torture test from his most famous dramatic monologue.

3 years before TNG, there was this gem

If you want to play that game, his greatest film was in 1981 with Helen Mirren naked and Liam Neeson questing for the Grail, where I learned as a child to love the Carmina Burana.
