Yo, peeps, what's the skinny on living in Salinas?

There's a possibility of a transfer to the Monterey area, and Salinas seems within decent distance and much more affordable.

All stories, suggestions, nightmares, etc, welcome.

Thanks,

Marc

Only been there once to visit a motorcycle store years ago, but I specifically remember wanting to leave.

I think salinas and I the first thought I get is gang violence... but I've never lived there

Sure, but gang violence is in every third or fourth town in America. It's just a matter of choosing which side of the tracks to live. And besides, I don't mingle with the gang types. So unless it's in my own street, which I wouldn't live there to begin with, otherwise I wouldn't even notice it.

Depends.... Monterey and Carmel are very different than Salinas, but very close.

I lived in Prunedale, and worked a stones throw from Laguna Seca, for 5 years. Different people live different life styles, and move though life in different circles.

Thanks, Greg.

Another buddy that actually lived there for years said that west of 101 is nice, safe, etc.

Well, Creekbridge and the Boronda developments are east of 101, and they're fairly nice.

East Alisal, not so much, but there are some seriously good Mexican restaurants.

There is a hella fast flat track racer from there.

curious that this seems to be a topic on the sink once or twice a month now.

Don't tell the wifey, will ya? She's already suspicious of my intentions to leave San Francisco. :laughing

The "bug out" topic? Oh, yeah. The cost of living here in the City is pushing many out.

Salinas = A BIG NO

My brother is a firefighter over there and he is more a medic now than anything else. I hear all kinds of fucked up stories that make me not want to do anything over there at all.

My friend just got his head caved in while walking down the street at night.

Right, but where in Salinas is that happening? People get run over or stabbed all the time in San Francisco. Does your brother know an area/neighborhoods that are just normal?

My friend just got his head caved in while walking down the street at night.

Details? Location? Time of day? Any contributing factors?

FWIW, I've seen that in SF, Mission, Folsom and 20th by El Faros, when there used to be a pay phone there....

I guess it's ok if you like the smell of Big (& Little) Ag everywhere. Just make sure you know where the water comes from! :laughing

Where was that store?

Salinas Cycle Center. My guess is that I'd have taken W. Laurel Dr. to Main. I think we stopped for gas and lunch, but don't recall the specifics. There's gotta be some decent fringe neighborhoods out there.

Toro Park on HWY 68. West Alisal. The newer housing near Northridge Maal. Stay away from Easy Alisal, East Market, Williams Road. Also, ChinaTown, Soledad Street (you can buy any kind of dope you want, any time day or night, or whores there ).

Doug Chandler is from North Salinas. Ricky Graham too. Doug has a motorcycle shop on Abbott street.

It's got some Real shitty neighborhoods. It's got some re nice neighborhoods too. The nicer the pricier.
