Salinas Living

You are a troll. Go away.

Again with the name calling.

Salinas is a shithole. This is a beautiful state, and I really can't think of a worse city to have to live in than Salinas.

I have lived in places that have really made me depressed, and I didn't want to even walk outside. Forget that noise. No more of that for me.

I am being mean spirited here, for sure, but you and Salinas seem like a good fit, OP. Depressing.

10-4. You came here exclusively to troll. Now go away.

I hope you find a great place in a good neighborhood. Good luck with that, and I'll drop by and visit as usual!:twofinger

:laughing

Thanks, Ernie. You and your flea bag shall have a soft blank to roll in and a warm meal to fill yer bellies. Mein Haus ist dein Haus.

Yep, there is crime in Salinas (just like everywhere else). Unless you are a dirtbag, or your neighbors are dirtbags, no worries. Property crime (burglaries and such) are about normal for a decent-sized city. Violent crime almost always happens only to those in the game.
That's my take. We don't attend school or go much to the movies and free concerts, stuff that can attract trouble. I don't mean we're immune to crime or violent crime, but we're not a magnet either.

Takes about 40 minutes to commute from Salinas to Monterey. I did it for years, as did Mrs. Bad Example. Blanco to Imjin to Hwy 1 still flows pretty well.

South Salinas is nice
To shave off commute time and mitigate crime problem, it'd have to be South Salinas.

Seaside ... Sand City ... Marina ... Monterey and Pacific Grove ... Carmel ...
We're trying to escape the hustle of very dense living, but will look. Thanks!

Yeah, that's the area
Google street view doesn't paint a nice picture of that development. And, it's so close to the new homes your buddies are moving into. No worries about property values?

I have been to Salinas and I have read some things on barf from the OP. I am happy that you are moving there, OP.

Not familiar with the history between you 2, but yeah, that and the follow-up post were uncalled for....

Not really that close... the East Garrison development was started around 2008, and then when funding dried up and the market went soft, construction stopped. As the market picked up, it re-started and the houses are now hitting the market. It's new, it's in a solid mid-point area between Salinas & Monterey, I'm pretty sure it will be fine.

The issue with cities like Salinas, Stockton, Fresno, Riverside, etc. is that they're the first to go south when home prices crash. And they fall the hardest.

Make sure you pick the best neighborhood you can afford, even if that means it needs to be a fixer-upper.

True!

The first leg of the move would be to rent for 1-2 years to have a decent feeling for the locale, all while keeping a pulse on the market in case a good deal pops out. The second and final leg would be ownership, hopefully in the right neighborhood.

I should say, not just a "good" neighborhood, but one that's older, and has been sought-after for decades because of its proximity to......something people want to be close to, whether that's downtown, the beach, or a university...... (I don't know that area). And because of its older, classic architecture.

As opposed to some new McMansion development way out in the middle of nowhere, that seems nice but has no name recognition or proximity to anything.
