Salinas Living

... and why don't you take a seat over there.

Is that show over?

:rofl

You're killing me, man!

That's not what I had in mind.

We're going to need you to have a seat right over there.

Sit Rep

SWMBO and I did a reconnaissance journey today.

We drove by 3 homes in Watsonville, 2 for sale, 1 rental. Not even close to meeting the basic specs. We almost went to Gizdich Ranch for pie, but drove to Seaside for brunch, a tip from a nice Barfer.

Then up 68 to see 2 homes in Speckles. Both great, but way too big for 2, unless I could fill the empty rooms with filles au pair. :laughing

Then to south Salinas to drive by 3 other homes, of which 1 is a rental. The rental was utterly shitty, and 1 home was in an alright neighborhood. Didn't see all the crime and blood that folks are talking about.

There are some nice developments along 68. We'll tap into that next month.

The crime and blood, traditionally comes out at night.

There was a little girl (maybe 5 years old) shot dead in the middle of the day. in the street, in the south suburb of Watsonville, where at least a dozen people saw it happen...
Not one person told the cops anything, as they feared gang trouble.

The little girl was shot, because her big brother was in a different gang, than the shooter.

Shooter walked free, went south across the border, before the cops could gather a case.

While a 5-yr being shot dead is a tragedy, none of my siblings are in gangs, into drugs, robbery, and shit like that.

So Saturday morning, SWMBO and I drove to the SLO, Arroyo Grande, Santa Maria and Orcutt areas for more scouting. We liked the Trilogy development and general area in Orcutt, but the model we'd like to have is sold out and the next single-family development won't happen for at least 2-3 years. Bummer.

The hunt continues.

Anyone knows of new and nice developments (excluding $1M McMansions) between SF and LA?

Crime stats show 24 murders in 2013 for Salinas. That's prettily normal for a Cali city that size. You guys are exaggerating, I think. Red rag, blue rag, they kill each other. Who cares.

Oh good, The Gang, always checks that out, befor doing a robbery... :rofl

Please pry the comma key from your keyboard and throw it away.

Signed,

Your third grade teacher's tortured ghost.

Check out Paso Robles, neat little town. Nice scenery.

My third grade teacher, (and that includes every teacher that came later) didn't know how to build race cars, or Motorcycles,
or how to ride a motorcycle...

Teachers weren't teaching anything I had an obsessive interest in.:laughing

My High School shop teacher, did stop my Mom one day, and tell her that in his teaching career, he only had two exceptional students..
And I was one of them.

After High School I went to a trade school to learn Machine shop tech. Graduated #1 out of that school.
At Graduation... Thiokol Chemical (major Aerospace & Defense contractor recruiters are there, giving tests for hiring.)

They told me that they had never seen scores as high as mine, come from a trade school...Would I just volunteer to take the test they gave at MIT or any Mechanical Engineering University? After taking those tests, they said I scored in the upper 10% of them.

So ... I have a different gift... What is Yours?

I grew up there, and my parents still live near by. From what I have heard and know, unless you are in one of the better areas, I would look to other areas.

If you are going to be working in the Monterey area, there are a lot of nicer/safer areas within a stones throw of Monterey than Salinas

As not to put your business out there, completely, you can pm me.

I guess my first questions are where are you going to be working and where have you looked, and what type of place/amenities are you looking for? Also, I am not cancelling Salinas out completely.

South/southwest Salinas and Spreckles look nice. But what we've been seeing in new development construction is McMansions, which comes with the commensurate price, but we already have that here in the City.

Spreckles is just outside enough that you should be good.

Further down 68, prices are going to jump. But you can also check the Prunedale/Oak Hills area (where I grew up) also, Marina (Mostly good areas), the old base (Fort Ord) does have some housing that is open to the public (not just students), and the border of Monterey and Pacific Grove. I think it is the David Ave. Also, the border areas between Seaside and Monterey. Hillby to about Abrego St, in Monterey. These are most of the places that off the top of my head, should have decent places for reasonable prices without being overly concerned with safety while going to the store.
