San Bernardino active shooting.

A non credible news station (I.e. not Fox) just said that the third person is still a POI possibly as a straw purchaser

I watched CNN, Fox and MSNBC and I will say that Fox was much more credible on this issue last night than the other two. I checked in on BBC as well, but forgot to look at Al Jazeera.

CNN spent much of the evening trying to massage everyone into not knowing what Fox reported at around 6:30, the guy's name. CNN had the psychologist and the discussions about workplace violence, and they kept the banner up that he was US born almost the entire evening. It was such obvious manipulation. Meanwhile, on Fox, even the asshat Hannity kept saying, we do not know for sure but here is the info thus far. You could sense their own awareness of their reputation.

The shooter's name was released by the NEW YORK TIMES fercrynoutloud, and quoted as such on Fox.. CNN waited and waited to report it.

Yesterday was like a big social experiment/demonstration of two things: one, the relative uselessness of Internet forums regarding breaking news and second, the agenda-driven manipulation of major media.

Of the former, just look at the first few pages of this thread. I was taken aback at how quick some here were to assume it was right-wing nutjobs and soveriegn staters. FACTS NOT IN EVIDENCE. Geez.

Of the later, Fox actually did a better job on this particular event. I know, it's unbelievable to some of you, but I find some of your early reactions equally unbelievable. Fox did not pound the terror drum but they equally did not discount it. CNN went out of their way, over and over again, to minimize the possibility. It reminded me of those two old parody movies, Network and Broadcast News. All CNN was missing was the astrologer. CNN is very loyal to the Obama White House and its insistence of never being able to mouth the worlds "Islamic terror." For better or for worse.

One thing is for sure, I have watched more CNN lately because of Paris and this and I categorically state, they are the worst major news network, hands-down. I kept thinking, "I want to see what they got just in case." I was not rewarded. They seemed to have more images in Paris, more reporters and such, I will say because I zipped around on that night as well with the coverages.

Actually, the dialogue I heard last night was not calls for more military and intelligence community power. I heard various "experts" delving exactly into what we are all thinking: our self-definition and maintenance of a free society. i DID NOT see expert after expert going after encryption issue, which I DID hear on the night of the Paris attack.

Even dumb media types seemed to understand the paradox of a US-born man and his wife, seemingly trained and prepared, under the noses of everyone but not necessarily due to encrypted software. And how hard it is to combat this kind of terrorism. I found much of the coverage sober, not hysterical, though weirdly slanted in the case of CNN up the river DeNial.

The more time at the range, the more gun and ammo purchases, the more gun talk, the more the next home-grown nut job.

what does this even mean? Pretty sure the happy couple honed their skills in Saudi Arabia. Are the skinheads all buyin plane tickets? Do tell.

Duh. No! It wouldn't sell more guns and islamaphobia.

In your opinion are there any fundamental differences between the fear of terrorism, the fear of Islam, and the fear of guns?

Seems to me that most folks what to ascribe events like this to one root cause, and it usually ends up being terror, too many guns, too few guns, mental illness, or religion. And then they start thinking about all their civil rights they want to surrender so that they feel safer.

It's disgusting to me. These bodies aren't even in the ground, and you have people on all parts of the political spectrum already standing on their graves, using the event to attack their fear, and demand that everyone give up more civil rights in the name of security.

I get it. You're scared. But is it really appropriate to leverage the deaths of innocents for your political ends? For now at least, can we mourn these people, and not use them as political tools?

Not that I want to debate any of this, but haven't people been doing this very thing for what, 2000 years?

That's when you have people's attention. Otherwise nobody cares.

The dude was born in Illinois and grew up in SoCal. One report said he went to La Sierra High School. Pretty much a local guy.

Possible terror link established:

"San Bernardino, California (CNN)Syed Rizwan Farook -- one-half of the couple behind the San Bernardino shooting massacre -- was apparently radicalized and in touch with people being investigated by the FBI for international terrorism, law enforcement officials said Thursday.

Farook's apparent radicalization contributed to his role in the mass shooting, with his wife Tashfeen Malik, of 14 people on Wednesday during a holiday party for the San Bernardino County health department, where Farook worked, sources said.

Still, it wasn't necessarily the only driver behind the carnage as workplace grievances may have also played a role. President Barack Obama hinted as much Thursday when he said that the attackers may have had "mixed motives."

The nightmare began at Wednesday's holiday party, where San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said that Farook left abruptly "under circumstances that were described as angry."

He returned with his wife dressed in "dark kind of tactical gear" and heavily armed -- each with a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun. And they opened fire."

Right, but all accounts I have seen he was Pakistani background. My niece's husband is Paki born and very secular, but still, the ties with home country involving future matrimony etc are quite often very strong. I fully expect him to try and influence his son to go back there for a wife. In fact, dood still has a wife and family in Pakistan in addition to my niece and grandnephew. It's been weird for years around the holidays.

I have travel planned to Turkey next year, I suppose I will come back a terrorist too.

Don't pay attention to that troll.

Don't we have rules about trolling? I know sometimes it is questionsble what trolling is, but when you make post, after post, after post saying moar guns, I think it is pretty obvious what you are doing.

Well there is also the allegedly contacted alleged terrorists part and the methodology of the attack which points to some advanced training.

Doesn't exactly read like Bonnie and Clyde wannabes.
