School me: AWD, mid SUV, mid to high end, good mpg

Honestly not that bad. B8 SQ5 (2014) that turned over 90K a couple weeks ago.

My wife leased the first of the next gen (2018) SQ5. Yeah the gauges and infotainment screen were nicer, but I honestly think the generation you have was better. That supercharged V6 is better than the single turbo V6 they switched to. Power delivery and reliability. And you have real actual exhaust pipes, not the outline of some using silver trim on the bumper…crikey what a stupid design choice that was.

I recently had a low miles turbo SQ5 engine that was eating itself. Sparkling oil and major lifter noise. Told the owner to trade it in immediately :laughing

Common. Broken valve springs, bearings, cylinder liners, I’ve seen a variety of glitter parties in the oil. This is why that 3.0T engine is crap.

Omg. I’m dead. Best analogy ever.

To make it perfect, add in the dice roll and mental counting of spaces before anyone else has and trying to figure out how to slip out of your impending doom...knowing there's no way. You're just...fucked.

I don't want to know about the S8. Let me count the dice roll spaces in my head...

Which S8 do you have? The older, but much cooler one with the Lambo V10? Or the newer generations with the 4.0T? If it’s the latter, that 3.0T V6 I said was trash earlier…guess what that engine is pretty much 3/4ths of?

Shit...now I'm counting more spaces.

Gen 3.

Ok BARF, school me:

looking to consolidate vehicles for the wife down to one do it all mom hauler.

Priorities in order:
- AWD (live in Tahoe)
- mid size SUV sizing (2 kids +dog& gear) no minivan
- decent (25+?) MPG (hybrid? No full electric)
- quiet comfortable cabin, great seats (heated of course)
- better than average reliability

Looking at Lexus rx450h...

We have a lexus gx470 now and I love it but she wants better mpg and a bit smaller. for reference new Highlanders feel cheap to me.

Yes, the gx is paid for, and the $ delta to get a new car pays for a LOT of gas, but it's not about the $, it's eco guilt I guess.

My girlfriend drives one of those Lexus Hybrids and she loves that thing. That all seems like too much shit to break to me, but if you dig it, do it.

The Subaru Ascent hasn't come up at all in the discussion from what I can see. Does anyone have any experience with this? I've had several Subaru's and they have alway been great in the snow and reliable. Gas mileage not so good. Looks like the Ascent is nothing to write home about in this department.

My counterpart at work has one.

It's... fine. Not great at anything, not really bad at anything save for typical shit Subaru MPG.

:laughing

Never had a single problem with any Ford I've owned. It's largely all bullshit wives tales and/or people doing it to themselves due to negligence and/or abuse.

No wives tales here, first hand experience with fords of the 80s and 90s....

August: Check out these few:

https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9QA65kbE/2017-bmw-330i-xdrive-sports-wagon. (MMR is $27-28K)

https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rjZNpEpl/2018-mercedes-benz-gls-550. (MMR is $36-38K)

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2016-porsche-cayenne-diesel-7/
(MMR is $32K) 34MPG. Pretty well loaded. If you don't I might. Need something for the East coast.

NOW: important. ALL of these are bad ideas cause they're from EU, but I feel I know you well enough to tempt some. The BMW wagon, while from a company that has product barely good to set on fire for warmth, is the best value IMO and will get reasonable mileage. The Merc's are pretty darn opulent, but I think you have to will them to someone in your bloodline to get rid of them when they get high miles. The CD is a cult fantasy. They do well, but whoever buys is from you is gonna be weird as shit and on their way back from a Sasquatch convention when they do so.

Or....I do have a line on a 2011 335d w/ sport package/ cold weather/ navi etc. Super fun little car. Probably could be bought for $10K or less...no accident history, etc. I mean, you want one more to park next to the others and figure ways to spend money on it, right?
