Sena Noise Cancelling Helmet

So these new helmets are shipping and the reviews are abysmal.

The noise canceling apparently does nothing and the helmet seems like overpriced junk.

Do you have a link? The one review I read said the noise reduction was effective. The helmet shape didn't fit the tester's head very well.

Way to over-dramatize. The reviews you reference average to three stars—hardly "abysmal," and hardly read as if the helmet is overpriced junk. Further, there's a big difference between "doing nothing" as you say and not being as good as a pair of noise-canceling headphones that cost more than half the price of the helmet in question, the reference point for at least two reviewers.

I have a set of Bose noise-canceling headphones and they're awesome, but given how they misbehave in specific scenarios like flight take-off, I have no doubt they'd fail badly at freeway speeds. There's a big difference between blocking ambient office or home sounds and blocking massive wind noise. Some realistic expectations are in order here, especially given the helmet's low price for what it promises.

Best part of those reviews, though, was the guy that listed "not modular" as a "con" for an obviously non-modular helmet. :laughing

This quote from the reviews did it for me:

"... the noise cancellation is disappointing. Is it noticeable? Sure - it's quieter than any naked helmet, albeit not by much. Is it enough to do without other forms of ear protection while on the freeway without risking hearing damage? No."

Looks like I'm stuck with sticking earplugs in my ears (and living with tinnitus).

Hmm interesting, wish I could try it out and compare to other helmets.

What's with that lame frequency response plot? There's no scale shown on the verticle access; just a single value of 100dB. It's completely meaningless marketing bs.
