SF Harley Closing

This dealer bought out Dudley Perkins a few years ago. They are not 100 years old, but Perkins was.

Dudley Perkins were the nicest people and a great dealership. These guys were not. I have a back story, but enough said for now.

When I owned my '98 Buell Thunderbolt, not once did I have a positive experience in a HD dealership. That said, I don't recall shopping at Dudley Perkins.

Last year I almost bought a Heritage from them
The sales staff was both courteous online/phone and in person the 2 times that I went there. The parts person not so much.

I would have gotten a great deal on the bike and today I regret not buying it

On a side note - My BIL took us to a great taco / Mexican place just a short distance away from the dealer (line was out the door and packed) he said the the Super Taqueria people in the Bay Area had started from there

We had to park just up the street the first time and the second was over on the back block by Eagle Rider rental - could walk through one business to to the other

Hastily made shitty sign is...well, you get it. Atrocious grammar aside, this sign doesn't necessarily imply they're closed permanently and that something else may be going on. They're still hosting their website with nothing posted about the company shutting down. That could easily be done by their webmaster in a few minutes and seems it would be appropriate to do if they were actually permanently closing, but who knows at this point since the business hasn't responded to requests for comment.

Damn that is 2 shops down. Monterey powersports and these guys. Only the strong will survive these interest rates and tight money

Since when was HD's financial arm giving out low interest rates in the first place? :laughing

From the interwebs...
Dudley B. Perkins (May 19, 1893 – February 26, 1978 ) was an American champion motorcycle hillclimb competitor and Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealer. The American Motorcyclist Association's highest award, the AMA Dud Perkins Lifetime Achievement Award, was named after him in 1970, and he was its first recipient.

Perkins opened a Harley-Davidson dealership in San Francisco in 1914 that would become one of the nation's oldest dealerships. Perkins found ways to keep his business alive through two world wars and a Depression and pass on the business to his son and, later, his grandsons.

On January 5, 2018 – Performance Brokerage Services, a new car and Harley-Davidson dealership broker is pleased to announce the sale of Dudley Perkins Co. Harley-Davidson in South San Francisco, California from Janet Perkins to Rich Gargano and Cliff Chester.Dudley-Perkins Co. Harley-Davidson was purchased by Rich Gargano and Cliff Chester. Rich and Cliff also own West Coast Harley-Davidson in Salinas, California and its alternate retail outlet on Cannery Row in Monterey, as well as House of Thunder Harley-Davidson in Morgan Hill, California.

Somewhere in the garage is box of Harley stuff and a business card from Dudley Perkins HD signed by "Dud". This was probably early '72 and the first time I was in the shop.

I considered getting a Sportster when they were offering $0 down & extremely low interest rates when I was still working retail. Glad I didn't actually do it. But Harley's not afraid to finance to sketchy lendees with little or no history.

I've never been in either shop, but I met a dude that worked at Dudley Perkins yeeears ago. He was a weird old dude, but he just liked motorcycles. Was really stoked to see my '71 CB500. It was the friendliest experience I've ever had at a Harley shop.

The current HD model doesn't work well in dense urban areas.

Sorry: Dealership model.
