SF Harley Closing

Like the Aspen Institute being headquartered in DC...

You know this already I'm pretty sure: the look and feel of OEM dealerships is put upon the dealership by the manufacturer...and the req's keep getting more and more costly and demanding. HD has been one of the brands that's pushed for the big box model.
Except it also has a location in Aspen which is its original home...and it's not the same thing as a motorcycle dealership using a city's name for a location they're not actually located in which is what we're talking about anyway.

Yeah, and they meet in Aspen once a year too, but other than that not much happens there during the year. However, your comment "Aspen which is the it's original home..." is exactly the point: they moved their HQ to DC. Like SF HD moving to another location.

But again, it's not the same thing as what we're actually talking about.

Harley has been slowly sliding down since 2006. Aside from the Pan America adventure bike, they have very little to appeal to people under 45 years of age. What is selling these days is inexpensive commuter bikes, adventure bikes and general purpose riders
I agree with Berto, aside from current expensive borrowing rates, the idea that only old guys buy H-D is dated. The MA bagger class is straight genius path to further change the trajectory of what an American cruiser can be. I understand that the delta between MA Baggers and showroom stock is as wide as the central valley, but the point is its changing perception and opening the door to a rev-max based cruiser with 17" wheels and Ohlins suspension, which up until a few years ago was blasphemy. Further, this matches the general market movement away from super sport formats.

Hilariously, while on vacation last week, I received a San Francisco Harley Davidson mini catalogue in the mail. Dated 3/2024.

From REDDIT regarding SFHD

"If anyone cares. I worked there for 3 and a half years as a mechanic. To sum it up, I can tell you it was a horrible careless owner (Cliff Chester) and horrible management ran by a scumbag family from Seattle, Scott Rawson being the ring leader. management not giving a shit about the customers full of lies and stealing. The management stole from this idiot owner until there was nothing left and they don’t sell bikes as it is, bc everything was marked up so high by this scumbag GM Scott Rawson. It’s just sad the legacy of Dudley Perkins was just thrown away overnight. It’s also sad all the employees had no warning of it closing besides the obvious. Saturday we were told to pack up our shit and that’s it no answers and our last check. There was only a few employees that actually cared about the outcome of that place, Harley Davidson and the customers. Myself being one of them. Fuck the owner Cliff, he has no business owning Harley dealerships and just threw away over 100 years of Harley history in SF. DONT spend your money at San Jose just go to Oakland Harley Davidson."

"I read corporate is taking over anyone reach out to you and say come back once it’s taken over ? Just seen article saying corporate will take over"

" I helped get that article out so people can hear the employees side of the story instead of blaming it on the motor company. It’s %100 this incompetent owners fault he had plenty of warning. I talked to corporate and they’re trying to find a potential buyer but who knows how long that would take. If it were to happen I would imagine they wouldn’t go back to the mission location with no parking lot. All the employees would have to try to apply as well no guarantee the new owner would take on everyone that worked there previously"
