Should actors only portray their race/gender/sexuality/religion?

This thread took a weird turn.

Reminds me of a bit of recent Microsoft Teams meeting with the whole western sector of my company about diversity and inclusion that was a panel of all white people. :laughing

Mr. Jangles with the alley-oop.

The last thing I want to know about actors, musicians, and other entertainers is anything about their personal lives, sexual preferences, politics, whether they think they're a chick/dude, etc. I do prefer historical portrayals to at least be the same race.

Good philosophy, methinks. They are actors, fergodsakes!

I recall Angela Landsbury doing political support ads years ago.
Mom! You can’t believe her! She’s an actor! She’ll say anything for money.

That, and she is a British citizen.

RIP Olivia de Havilland who played a Southern Belle in her supporting role in "Gone With The Wind" that earned her an Oscar.

Born to British parents in Tokyo.

104!

The whole concept of celebrity is just bizarre to me. Especially how crazy people get about it. I mean, Tom Hanks, add one example, is insanely popular. And that makes sense: he does a job and he's really good at it.

But that's really no more impressive to me than, say, a really good roofer. Or a plumber. Or a chef. Like, they're impressive crafts people, but I'm not gonna embarrass myself or them just to show the world that I was in a space to breathe the same air as them.

But I realize that some people really do care about celebrity, and the products they endorse. I guess for me it works backwards: if a celebrity endorses a product that I already dislike, like Chick-fil-A, I'm going to be less inclined to like anything else the celebrity does.

But otherwise, they're just people. They have embarrassing bowel movements like the rest of us do.

But in full disclosure, when I had the opportunity to meet Malcom Smith at one of the USGPs at Laguna Secs, I lost my shit a little bit and took every advantage of that opportunity. Here's a cool dude.

Grew up in Saratoga and went to Los Gatos HS as well.

I lived near her sister in the Carmel Highland for a bit... so many dogs.....

Yup, weird turns are the way many of these threads go.

How dare you post this? I have never had an embarrassing bowel movement. I have had horrendous bowel movements. Farts of a sinister and deadly redolence that have driven people to tears, coughing, swearing and covering their mouths with handkerchiefs. I've had poops that were of a liquidity that makes the Fed look parsimonious. I've pooped logs that could shatter porcealin. Blown gelatinous masses that no human should have to witness.

I have never been embarrassed by any of these eructations. Proud? O yes.

Why are you allowed to do this when it's prohibited by the Geneva Convention? :fart

I don't care about them any more than I care about anyone else. Or any less.

Dude, it just seems like the last year or so you are coming around here just to go full blown OutLikeATrout.

I'm not sure what you are trying to get out of that.

Doesn’t care about actors but cares about the topic. Yet on a crusade against those who don’t care about the topic and likely don’t care about actors.

I thought the thread was about actors :shrug

I appreciate the honesty in posts, I appreciate authenticity, candor

I'm not sure what that means?

Maybe you don't remember OutLikeATrout, he was a dude that used to be in here all the time back in like 2005 talking about Jesus stuff. He really wanted to turn everything into a conversation about Christians, christian family values, and the like. Always trying to find perceived slights to accuse people of being anti-christian and trying to defend his paradigm no one cared about.

Eventually he stopped, because I assume he realized that even if a mildly relevant topic did come up as a platform for him, no one here is super invested in the topic and cared that much about getting deep on it and this isn't the place to find those kinds of conversations.

:dunno

Hollywood needs to put Terry Crewes in every film they make. That dude rules at everything.

AND Terry Bollea. It's like excellent Terry and horrible Terry (kinda).

Danny Glover. Talked to him for a few minutes last year, super nice guy.

Yeah, but he's gettin' too old for this shit.

You knew what what you were doing.

Yep fo sho

Side note: Always good to accept people's apologies when given. Eventually, we'll need the same consideration and it keeps the idea of giving someone a chance to reset the conversation/ relationship alive. I'm a firm believer of giving a person a place to retreat to and a mulligan on an apology. It's rare we see these on BARF anyway.

YMMV.

+100. Knowing too much about them (personal) can really screw up who they're trying to be. Not giving a care about their political stances really allows enjoyment of everyone in entertainment. Except Nicholas Cage. He sucks. At everything.

You should go down and live at my Alma mater. After 4 years there, almost everyone despises most of the celebrities. It really ruins the movies they make too to interact with them and then, see their movies.

I definitely remember his username, he's one of the oldschoolers. I also remember the feedback of "Do you go to christian forums and talk about motocycles?" but I always thought that was for randos who came around here and tried to fling christ at us. Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe I'm thinking of two different things.

Anyhow, I appreciate the feedback. I like discussing these topic here because otherwise my other option is on general social media - where ts either an echo chamber or turns toxic in an instant. And I'm well aware, again, I went too far with it a few pages ago.
