the short of it is that fit is subjective to an extent. Some people don't know how to size & fit a helmet properly (perfectly). They get close enough and call it perfect because the other helmets they tried on fit even worse.
I like to take the padding out and try the helmet on this way. If it fits my skull properly and my face isn't going to get smashed in without the pads, then I have a good foundation to start with to customize the comfort to my liking (padding).
