Skyrim

i am using the barrels right outside the weapon shop/forge just inside Whitehall until i get a house. i haven't lost anything, yet.....

now knowing there are more, and more expensive, houses i've continued my hoarding ways and am now up to 10k with no house. from someone who's played further than i, i'm wondering if it makes a difference from a resource investment stand point compared to the convenience gained of owning just one, ideally located house vs. just owning them all.

to earn $ the "just play the game and don't worry about it" method works awesome, for me. i just hack, loot, craft, sell rinse, repeat and usually blow away my targets for what i'm saving for. i'm being timid with my skill points. i've only spent 5 of them on 1 handed combat so far. hoarding my other 8 atm. :nerd i may be putting them towards bow, though, since it's quite fun poping mobs from distance.

Actually had my companion Lydia die on me. She got smacked around by a Troll. A quick reload fixed it. Thankfully I'm a compulsive saver.

I like how the encounters are structured vs how they were in Oblivion. The difficulty seems much better balanced. Meeting nothing but goblin warlords in Oblivion got really old fast...

Saw some Lavender planted in the landscape outside of my office. Briefly paused to think about harvesting it. Playing this game too much. :rofl

Also, one of these days I'm going to eat one of the Skyrim mushrooms to learn something about its effects and have my character hallucinate. I'm counting on it. :teeth

Fuck, 4 hours of sleep last night. My Skyrim character is getting about 6x more sleep than me. :(

Anybody else getting a Game of Thrones (Song of Ice & Fire) vibe from this game? Walking through the snowy woods last night with just me and the wind and I started getting creeped out. You can almost imagine the Others wearing crystalline armor materializing out of the snow. That would be an awesome mod for the PC. Start with the Wall, you play as a ranger of the Night's Watch sent out to find the missing patrols. Giants, mammoths, sabrecats, bears, undead, trolls, it's all in the game already.

So I am at level 18 and seem to be getting my ass kicked left and right. How Dino raise my defense/armor? I have 92 armor rating but almost all enemy kill me with 4/5 hits.

Getting the Lord Stone perk helps. + 50 armor rating.

Oh hell yes, totally with you on this one. I'd pay for that mod, and gladly. Huge fan of the books! :thumbup

I'm tired of swapping to my kickass archery gauntlets, which are iron and clash with my leather anyway, so I disenchanted them to learn. Put the enchantment on my leather braces, 2% instead of the 25% archery bonus. FFFUUU minimum enchantment skill.

I got kitchen furnishings so in addition to my chest near my bed I've got a cupboard for storing food and ingredients, and a cooking pot to make them edible. The kitchen set also provides sacks but I'm worry they'll spawn potatoes to replace dragon bones and whatever cool loot I put in there. Oh yeah, there's also a weapon rack for storing two equipped weapons. It's lame.

SPOILER: I wasn't really following the storyline so I just recently killed the first (well, second) dragon near Dragonreach and became the Thane of Whiterun. So I headed on up to see the Greybeards...

MF'ing frost troll took out my companion, Jenna-whatshername, in one or two hits. I would kite him and he would regen health. He actually killed my leather-clad companion so I said funk dat and came back with Lydia who wears heavy armor.

We brought a flaming battle axe and a flaming bow cuz fire hurts trolls. Trolololol up the 7000 steps and Lydia busts out her bow and aims at the sky. I'm like, WTF you crazy bitch? Then I look up and see a dragon. Oh chit! I get smart and run to the frost troll. Dragon brings Lydia to her knees, chases me, sees frost troll, hilarity ensues. I plink iron arrows into troll for shits and giggles. Troll succumbs to his wounds. Lydia returns just in time to help me fight dragon. And not a single potion was drunk.

This game is my world! I haven't messed around with un-chanting and enchanting weapons/armor. How does one go upon doing that? (what workstation) and as for the soul gems, how do I capture souls with the empty ones? I never bothered to try but I want to now... and to keep your enhanced weapon you keep switiching/adding souls when it runs dry, correct?

You have to find an enchanting station. Whiterun has one in the main hall off to the right from the dining table in the Jarl's court. They're all over the world but mainly where mages live/work.

To capture souls into the soul gems, you have to cast the Soul Trap spell at the creature (or use a weapon with Soul Trap) prior to killing it. The soul then gets saved into the smallest container possible. This is where you have to be careful. A grand soul will not fit into a petty soul gem. A petty soul gem will fit into a grand soul. Killing a Crab when you only have a grand soul gem will put a petty soul into the grand soul gem. It's an expensive mistake. It's best to have all sizes of soul gems with you when you soul trap a creature so the soul always goes into the proper-sized gem.

Enchanted weapons have magicka charges. After you deplete the charge by using it, the weapon reverts back to it's un-enchanted state. You can refill the charge on an enchanted weapon by using a soul gem. Here you have to be careful to use the right soul gem so you don't waste your money.

It's a lot of micro-management if you want to be proficient with enchanting, but it's satisfying in it's own way and the rewards/benefits of having a high enchanting skill is huge.

Arcane workbench. You can find one at the Dragonsreach in the room of the mage.

You cast Capture Soul or attack an enemy with a <Weapon> of Souls. If it dies before the time limit (60 seconds on Capture Soul spell, 3 seconds for my Hunting Bow of Souls) it will be loaded into a soul gem in your inventory. To recharge a enchanted weapon, go to the weapon and press T. Pick a soul. Stronger souls recharge more. (eg you have Petty, Common, Greater, etc)

This uses up soul gems, so keep finding 'em.

Thanks! I used to do a lot of enchanting in Oblivion but it's been so long I had forgotten the basics. You get one dragon soul for your help. You're welcome.

BTW, one way of maximing your profit and increasing your Enchant at the same time. Buy all the petty soul gems you can find. Soul trap the fuck out of crabs. Then when you go on a quest and you pick up a bunch of weapons/armor, get them to the enchanting table first and put enchantsments on them using the petty soul gems. You get huge profits from selling enchanted weapons and your enchant skill goes way up.

You all have WAY more spare time than I do.

And standing at Best Buy yesterday, there's a huge box with these snowy mountain graphics on it that reads Scrolls of the Elders. I wanted it, and couldn't explain to myself why. Special edition Xbox blah blah blah.

Damn near bought the thing on impulse. :laughing
