Skyrim

I played Oblivion as a Dark Elf because I wanted to sneak and use a bow. Basically treated the game as a FPS. :D

Preordered for months! Can't wait to sneak away from my fiance tomorrow and develop the biggest nerdbone imaginable.

My coworker today told me that it has a random quest generator put in that makes the game basically endless. I played Oblivion until I did every last quest and explored the entire map. Maybe I should never start this game. :teeth

It had better be a darn good quest generator. Oblivion had randomly generated caves, but what I started noticing is that while every cave was different, all the caves were basically the same... :laughing

I built my last system when Oblivion came out. Its not able to play Skyrim so I am getting it for 360. I am hoping I will sink at least half the time into it as I did Oblivion. I think I stopped playing it at around 180+ hours of game play. Cant wait to find the dark brotherhood guild.

I bilt min in early 08 but it still rocks some of the newer games pretty good. It played fallout new Vegas and portal 2 very well. It might help that I have a quad core CPU and crossfire graphics setup with 8gb of ram. I think I should still be able to run skyrim.

Oblivion generated monsters in caves but the caves weren't randomly generated during the game. This will be randomly generated quests. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Just be an amoral bastard... I'm sure you will find them fast :teeth

The skeleton key quest was the best... I hate not being able to unlock chests...

3 more hours and I'll go pick up the game. I hope I don't fall asleep at work tomorrow.

After getting a couple of hours in I have to say im really liking the game. All if what I lived about oblivion only better now. I need to turn it off so I can get some sleep. Steve just get a xbox 360 and the game so you don't have to upgrade your pc.
I almost ended up getting the game for free tonight. When I went up with my revolt the guy just looked at it said 360I put it in a bag and handed it to.me and said thank you. It's a shame im such an honest guy. I stood their for a few seconds and the guy was like is there anything else you need help with? Then I had to open my mouth and say I still need to pay for the rest of the game. At least he thanked me for my honesty. I figured I could use the good karma.

I hated that one! I spent so much time mastering lock pick.

I played for a couple hours last night.
Kahjit ftw
Instead of running off to the village like the game wanted me to I ran off to a dungeon and started to fuck up some bandits!
The graphics are fucking amazing!

I heard it's just Fallout without guns.

And that's a bad thing?

:wtf

I preordered Skyrim a couple of months ago and promptly forgot about it. I signed up for range duty tonight, not realizing the game comes out on a Friday. Since when the fuck do games release on a Friday?

So now I gotta stand at the range for 3 hours sneaking peeks at the manual and hoping some noob doesn't pop himself with his Glock foh-tay.

Oblivion sucked up a couple hundred hours from my life. And I loved every minute I spent on it. That game came out in 2006 and I was still playing it back in June. I have no reason to believe that Skyrim won't be just as awesome, if not loads better.

This game is so much better then fallout for me at least. Its easier for me to get into this style then the post apocalyptic setting of fallout. Fallout 3 was great but I just never could really get into new vegas. I put about 3 hours into the game after picking it up last night. I'm still getting use to the console controls but so far the game rocks.

.

I can't use game pads. I need a keyboard and mouse. Plus I like helping keep PC gaming alive.

How are the bows working out?

I love the archery physics in Oblivion. Better than any Cabelas game. I just loved walking through the woods and popping a deer from 200 yards with a glass bow.

Steve have you thought about using onlive?
http://www.onlive.com/
It uses their servers so you don't need a top level rig to play the new games. You can use what ever you have and play them just fine as long as you have a decent broadband connections. I have a few friends who swear by onlive

The bows are a tad different. I have not tried the super long range shots I use to do but they seem to have less of an ark to them now. Still pretty easy to use and you still have to take into account elevation drops just not as big of a drop as oblivion.

Do want.

Nerds with guns! I love it!

Yup, this has caused me to blow many a shot already :laughing

The most promising things for the bows, in my opinion, is an improved sneak mechanism and the chain of "perks" ahead of me. I'm really hoping it doesn't wind up like it did in Oblivion, where I go all-bow and then require 20 arrows and 20 poisons to bring down enemies late-game. I did not appreciate having to kite half the enemies for 5 minutes to kill with bow. They seem to understand that, as you cannot kite effectively- walking backwards is slow and you can't sprint backwards either. Although this time 'round I think I will try to keep up with the swords too, so I can lead with arrows and finish with blades. Hedge my bets :nerd

I've also successfully led running targets from halfway across a cave, which I don't recall being able to do well in Oblivion. Not only does it make things more fun, that suggests it will be a bit more viable.
