so, what brand oil and filter do you guys use? and how much do you pay?

What's the best oil to use in my bike?

Motul 7100 fully synthetic: ~$45 for 4qt (from cyclegear.com)
K&n Filter: ~$12 (from cyclegear.com)

K&N oil filters 'cuz you can get them almost anywhere and they have a hex head so they're easy to remove (not that it matters much on an SV650, but still).

Spectro 'cuz that's what the shop has and it's good enough for me (and it's an SV650 so it's less picky than something more high strung).

Shell Rotella synthetic every 5000 miles and a Supertech (Walmart) oil filter. Except on these damn Yamaha's.
Works for me.
Rotella synthetic is great and only $19 a gallon. ST oil filter is rated very
well and under $3.

SV650
Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W40 Synthetic - $7.50qt
Suzuki Filter - forgot
Ninja 250
Redline 15W50 Synthetic - $15qt
K&N Filter because it came with free o-rings - $7.95

K&N and Fram are the worst brand of oil filters you can use.
use the search feature to look for the thread about where a guy too them aparts and it was just cardboard on the inside.

I use motul 15w 50 synthetic blend/semi-synthetic.
I have used it for all 5 of my motos, never any problems.
The type of filter I use is BRP

For my cars/trucks I use chevron oil and mobile one filter.
The oils contains an addative that not only helps get better gas mileage, but ot is also formulated to help your engine start up easier.

rotella dino and hiflo's I pay 2.50 for. FWIW one of my bikes has gone 90k with that no problem.

all joking aside, do any of you actually use non motorcycle motor oil?

I use whatever oil my local store has in stock that meets specs for my bike (10W-40 API SF/SG or SH/SJ or JASO MA). I'll use synthetic when Suzuki says it's a good idea.

Have used the Suzuki OEM filter in the past, but tried K&N for the last one and liked that it didn't require a special tool to install.

No filter. I run a total loss system. Fresh oil goes in, dirty oil flows out, down the road. The only lubricant worth while is fresh-squeezed from newborn babies. And I run the American stuff. None of that Indian baby oil for my bikes.

rotella T6 has the JASO MA rating.

Really the only oil you dont want to use is types that have "friction modifiers" that may cause issues with wet clutches.

there are additives to motorcycle oil that are supposed to help with shearing breakdown. But most test I have seen show that infact most automotive and motorcycle oil breaks down about the same rate.

Every 3-6,000 miles (depending on type of riding I did mostly)

Amsoil full synthetic motorcycle oil and filter.

It comes out to be ~$55 after shipping for 1 oil change.
