so, what brand oil and filter do you guys use? and how much do you pay?

AMSOIL Oil and Filter. Happy for me that there is a distributor next to me.

k&n just because that 17 on the end makes life easy, switch it out everyother oil change 15 bucks

motul 5100 10-40

K&N and Amsoil 10w-30 Synthetic

Neither one is probably a critical choice since I change my oil every 1800-2000 miles without fail.

Yay, oil thread...I use some kind of 10w-40 and buy OEM filters.

I think people make way too much of oil. Oh and Feanor...I know you really like to baby that thing, but buying pricey synth and changing it every two thousand miles when you're riding around on the street is definitely throwing money away.

I know... I just can't help myself :(. But then again, I had almost 50k miles on my previous zx-6r using that oil brand/schedule with no motor issues at all regularly bouncing off the rev limiter and always being over 8 grand rpm on the freeway.

Sure it might have had nothing to do with oil type, but I like to unreasonably pamper my things :). Heck, I spent 10k on the bike, $100 every 6000 miles doesn't seem so bad.

K&N filter is a Hi Flo.

I use Mobil one synth and OEM filters.

i use fram filter with generic car motor oil (10w30)from autozone on my r6. works like a charm!

Can I use a car motor oil on my gsxr600? I have been wanting to do this since I have a hook up on winchester auto parts and autozone. But I am afraid that in might do a damage on my gsxr600 if I put a car motor oil in.

I agree. I beat the crap out of my bike. Running full syn and changing it every 3k give a nice piece of mind that it's running as smooth as possible.

If it was a commuter bike, I'd run only pt syn, but it's only a "weekender" or track ride.

On a side note, not that it's backed by scientific information, but every car we have had that has had synthetic oil in it, it has never had anything oil related give me issues. Our only car w/o syn oil burns oil all day long and has the most issues--oil/engine related.

Always, always factory filters.

Redline for oil. 10-40 for my bike. And always full synthetic, regardless.

so you ride something that can easily exceed 100mph with no protective cage built around you and you want to penny pinch with car oil?

As far as my question, I was just curious but I did not take any chances. So far bike is running like a champ, every oil change I use Castrol 5W-20 synthethic and K&N filter.

Motul 300v double ester synthetic, but I normally buy it a case at a time.

why are you running 5w20? i believe suzuki recommends 10w40 for your bike.

And Castrol doesn't make a 5w20 motorcycle oil IIRC... do you mean their 5w40?

HAHA. Fail at me.
I meant to say 5W-40
Well, it's an '04 gixxer and it has 34,000 miles. That's the only reason why I am running 5W-40 synthetic.
