Solar Eclipse Glasses?

Drove up to Salem, Or with my 7 year old, camped in one of the the city parks (courtesy of the City of Salem.... thanks! We couldn't have made it otherwise!).

I followed partial eclipses before and I thought I kind of knew what was going to be like but, man, I was blown away!

Completely worth it!

Looking forward to 2024 now.....

What settings did you use on your camera to get that photograph!

I was right on top of a ridge overlooking the Snake river, right near Lime OR.

Here's a video of us watching the shadow approach.

It's a composite of 2 exposures:

ISO 100; f/7.1; 1/250sec

ISO 100; f/7.1; 1/15sec

280mm lens, cropped

The longer exposure has good detail of the corona but the ring around the sun is washed out...

:thumbup

I used the settings published by a proclaimed eclipse chaser to use 1/1000 shutter with lens open wide. I didn't get any detail in the corona :(

I did, however, bracket by two stops so got some varying degrees of corona size but had no details. Will be on the lookout for a 800mm to use in 7 years for the next eclipse.
