Sometimes you're the bat in life. Other times, the ball.

Wasn't planning to work (or attend) Laguna this year, but I'd definitely go for a day to watch you race!

Saw on roadracingworld.com today that the AMA homologated the SuperDuke so I think that means Gogo's a go for Laguna?! Nice to have a reason to watch that race finally, kick ass!

Yes we are a GO for Laguna. I can hardly believe we made it over all the hurdles. You wouldn't believe how many.

By the way we tested the new configuration Superduke this past Saturday. Struggled a bit up down and sideways with adjustments and settings until about three pm. Then "IT" happened.

You know what I mean by "IT"? Like when the chick you've been eying up all night walks over and starts playing with your collar? Or when two cherries at the slots turns to three? You know the "IT" I mean. . .

Phil and I bashed horns one more time about one more suspension move and then there it finally was - pure gold. Our bike is now balanced, has great chassis numbers, and it corners more like a cat than a mule with bipolar disorder.

We went into turn three in our last session with the bike trailing in on it's side over the bumps with it's motor screaming it's way down from the limiter. It felt so good that as I looked up and around that never ending bend I thought I saw myself just up ahead on the 749R again. And we were just about on pace.

All that was so fun about the Superduke, back in round 1, is back. Only now it's better.

I can't wait to run again :thumbup

So GoGo,

How was the Friday Daytona Sportbike practice?

--S

Only practice Friday. Qualifying today, race Sunday - right after MGP.

Some of the top guys in DSB came by on Thursday to size up the new Superduke. AMA said they got three hate mails from the top teams bitching about the AMA not giving them enough time to prepare for the new competition. The new competition?

Anyway it's been great so far. Lots of interest in this thing. Two of the MGP crew came by and hung out for a while asking about the bike. Sete's crew, and Mika's. Both had interpreters. When we ran yesterday we learned our gearing is WAY too tall. Out of turn six and up that long back hill we only make one upshift, just on the paint out of six. All of that climb is one long barely accelerating gear. This kills us everywhere but it seems the worst here. We can't stay in anyone's draft anywhere. Not even the guys slower than us on the time sheets. You might not think drafting is so important at Laguna, until you have no bodywork to hide behind... We have a 15 tooth front sprocket and can't go to a 14 because the chain will bend around the front of the swingarm too much. We have a 39 tooth rear and we need a huge jump up - like a 42. But no one makes a 42 for this bike in a 520. So once again John Nichols of Nichols Manufacturing came to the rescue. They bought a Suzuki rear sprocket yesterday and rushed back up to John's shop. In one hour he 3D plotted it, zero'd it out on the machine, and bore new carrier holes, then cut out the inside to fit our larger carrier inside diameter. 12 midnight the sprocket was back at Laguna. Now we just need a new chain.

The control tires are not like the tires Terry Sells at the track. Not even close. Some guys are starting with 18lbs in the rear, and 28 up front. We broke yesterday's practice into two segments. After the first segment one of the Dunlop techs came to check our pressures. He looked up at me in shock after he read the gauge - "Your rear has too much pressure." I shouted back from just in front of the Jordan Suzuki crew who were also into the Superduke "How much too much?" He casually answered back, "About twenty five pounds too much.. Do you want me to check the front too?"

OK so holy shit, our guys are obviously distracted here, but we're all doing our best. The same Dunlop guy winked at me and said as he walked away "Gold star GoGo, for not ending up on your head. You had ZERO traction out there."

We've also got a wallow we need to work out, but I expect it is within our range of current valving - which is great news. We ended our practice yesterday with a 1:35:4. Not great but considering our last two months we'll take it. Plus we KNOW where more time is waiting. Our goal is 1:32:5s. I'll post back.

Hope to see you guys and girls here,

GoGo

thanks for taking the time to fill us in a bit, gogo! :thumbup

He's there. Its currently showing group B and he's 8th.

ah.,...i was watching the A group... he's in 10th now... with a 1:34.8. only 10 seconds to shave off and he'll be front running! :teeth

oh, sweet! seabass is out there too! AFM #160 (AMA 160 as well). he's in 7th right now with a 1:33.7.

gogo just did a 1:34.4...w00t! kinda funny seeing the list starting with aprilia 1000, then a sea of 600s with a single KTM on there. hehe.

Nice race GoGo, and nice to meet you friday. We saw the contact on turn 3 very well, just curious what exactly did you and the gixxer bump, we thought elbows for sure. BTW all the corner rats were talking about the Superduke so you delivered for sure.

Elbows were the first contact. They're the farthest out. It was my fault he slipped under us going in. I blew that approach. But he blew the exit, and we paid the price - hence, the bird down the chute :twofinger

I got him back after the second restart though. Going into five we went under him at the apex and sent him toward the porta-potties.

Best race weekend I have ever been a part of. Fan F-ing tastic.
