Spyke--What do you Know About it?

How about you are stopped, at the corner of some nice SF hill and your passenger leans, and your foot slips, and he and you fall over and get run over by a UPS truck? Couldn't happen? Dunno. SF is rough enough without live weight on the back.

This will die faster than trampoline parks did because the liability is just wack-a-mole.

not dead.

oh well, I'm out...
riders are asked to have 5 years of riding experience with an M1 License. Also, riders cannot have any moving violations within the last 3 years.

I had the same idea a long time ago when I bought an A-Sider grab handle for my R1.

My wife immediately nixed that on account of potential :boobies cusomers.

:laughing

Trade in the wife, and get another bike. You got a defective model. :laughing

My wifey has her own bike. She can get her own :boobies to ride with her.

I have a hard time accepting this idea, as a rider or as a passenger. It's just too dangerous for me.

I had the idea years ago about something like relayrides.com for motorcycle since a good number of riders are weekend riders only so their bike just sits in the garage during the week. If I can rent it out to pay for the additional insurance and payment for the bike. But the chance for having the bike stolen would be so high that it seems like it won't work either.

I don't know what this comment has to do with carrying a passenger. The customer will be aware of the inherent dangers of riding a motorcycle, so an accident at the legal speed limit has no bearing on the discussion at hand.

Jesus fucking Christ, who the hell is the passenger, and why isn't the rider being aware of the weight shift and approaching UPS truck before the passenger makes them both fall?
It seems you're bringing outlandish scenarios to justify your fear.

No bearing? If the s.o.b. on the back gets killed, who do you think covers his death lawsuit? Any decent lawyer will tell you that "waivers" do not stop litigation. And I can almost guarantee that a "reasonable expectation" of safe passage will put the operator in a poor legal situation.

What the hell am I afraid of? Not much. I just used a potential scenario (with UPS exaggerated color) that might not be considered because so many barfers, like yourself, are just blinded by the wonderfulness of motorcycling and their outrageous expert skills with said vehicles. Sh!t happens!

You make the assumption that some stranger hopping on the back of your bike is going to behave in a sensible, helpful manner. My experience indicates that to be a very poor assumption. The example I gave is similar to something that happened to me. I have told it as a funny story, before, because neither me nor my date were injured, and the bike was okay.

Good to see a trampoline park. I am happy they got around the liability insurance that closed so many others. Maybe there is hope after all. I love trampolines.

Today, almost anyone can make a professional-looking website. That doesn't mean they have a viable idea.

This reminds me of the Triton underwater breathing device.

Looks good right? But the obvious thing, someone underwater, that hasn't happen.

So it is a nice site, maybe they are looking for funding. But actually riders picking strangers up?

No, I'm just a guy with a reasonable expectation of life. Don't like the idea of giving people rides? Don't give people rides. Easy peasy.

This is a very stupid idea. Uber is already in a very big legal battle over insurance and this is going to be even worse. Bikes get hit all the time by cars that don't see them and if you are using your personal vehicle to give rides for money your insurance will not cover you. Now throw a bike in the mix who has much less visibility and is more likely to have bodily injury when hit or crashed and its a recipe for disaster insurance wise. I will caution any one thinking about doing this that there will be a gap in coverage.

Bwahaha... March 30? They're a couple days early...

Not so simple. After the first accident where a passenger is hurt, there will be a lawsuit against the rider and against the company. The plaintiff will win, the rider will lose all of his assets and will be paying off a massive judgement until the end of his life, and the company will fold. This idea will work until the first injury (or death) lawsuit, and then it's over.

But we are not discussing about 2up riding.

This is about a business of giving strangers a ride.

It seems near impossible to me.
