No Crypto Talk No Crypto Talk. Keep that in the Bitcoin thread.

So I'm kicking myself for not being able to get into the crypto craze. Tried to get in for XRP when it was $0.30 but coinbase and the hype prevented me. It rose to $1.20 and I said no way.... :cry

So now I'm in the regular market and have recently invested about in marijuana stock. Canopy Growth, Aphria, and Aurora. Thinking about Terra Crop (TRTC) and Organigram.

I want to invest about $5,000 more. Like to find some good lithium stock.

What's everyone looking at? There a good blockchain on the market worth looking into?

I bought a whopping 200 bucks of Aurora. It's now worth 250.

Soon I shall turn it into 160k. But first, I'll put another 200 bucks into it.

thanks for starting this thread!

i don't own or track any particular stock because my personality is such that i would be checking their prices all too often for my own good and get anxiety ridden over the volatility and get fired at work for not being productive :laughing ...

i do recommend the ETF SPY. It has a low expense ratio and it is diversified. In the evening, when they announce how the S&P 500 did, I can pretty much get a sense of how my ETF performed.

I prefer ETFs over mutual funds because, if I ever need to, I can sell them right away (knowing the price), not wait for the trade to complete at the end of the day. I bought my first share 2 years ago, have gradually bought more here and there. I have had a 13% return on my investment, thanks to how well the stock market has been performing lately, and that is good enough for me. Having the dividends reinvested automatically, I won't get rich quick on it, but slow and steady is the way I want to go.

I own Ford for their dividend and solid fundamentals. I own Disney for their growth potential and solid fundamentals. I only have around $2k total between the two now after selling off a chunk of Ford I got for around $2 per share.

My retirement funds (I'm 28) are elected as highly aggressive and have made me 20% since inception.

My HSA funds are invested with Russell 2000 small cap and have made me 15% since inception.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a 20% correction early 2018. If so, watch SRTY which is Russell 2000 ultra short. I think I will buy a share...

Agree with Jennifer that index ETFs are good. I use IVV to follow S&P and ONEQ for NASDAQ.

But I worry about the US dollar's standing in the world, with recent directions and misdirections taken by our esteemed leaders. :nchantr Accordingly most of my IRA has foreign investments. Can share more about that if there is interest.

As mentioned in another thread I bought some Altria Group as a conservative play for the coming weed boom. I suspect that once the floodgates open, the little guys will have their lunches eaten by big tobacco and others with the experience and resources to take advantage.

4 years from retirement.
I have blue chip stocks & safe funds.
I think my Advisors estimate of having a million $ when I retire was way overestimated.
Investing in some pot plants come spring. So If I don't get a million $, I wont care.

Big correction coming in the next year, IMO. Looking forward to doing some discount shopping ;)

i can see that also, big tobacco has the infrastructure and know-how to take over on a grand scale. ... pls do share some of the info on your international investments. i have avoided them because of the volatility relative to domestic ... i have been thinking about tweaking my asset allocation for some time.

How did you find a financial advisor that you trust? Through referral by friends/family?

Sure.

First there are a couple of Australia ETFs, EWA and AUSE, because we'll be moving to Oz soon and I wanted some protection from exchange rate movement. So this is partly a foreign exchange hedge and partly for investment gain.

Then there's my old friend Diageo (DEO) which is a European liquor stock. It's up 84% since I first bought in. I figured that no matter how bad things get, people will always drink. :)

FSIVX is a Fidelity international index fund with very low fees and has been good to me. It's a mix of growth and income.

And finally FGD which I chose for its geographical and sector diversity and focus on high dividends. It strikes me as a good counter-balance against US investments.

Hope that helps. I'd definitely welcome any other insights for foreign investments.

I guess I won't say anything about following Warren Buffetts' advice and buying VOO.

For anyone who wants to park and forget, SPY, VOO, or one of the Schwab ETF's. (SCHX, SCHV, SCHD).

I hold some Verizon for dividends.
Probably a good time to buy GSK.
STX pays a nice dividend
I'm too nervous about MLP's or energy stocks to invest there.

For international IDV! DXJ has been good to me, and if you think Japan is going to boom, it's a good investment.

If you have the balls, PFL, PFN, PCI, the Pimco funds can be great dividend funds. Just read up and be aware that inflation can change any fixed income equity fast.

PFF for fixed bank income.

Chimera Investments (CIM)

Gabelli Equity Trust in an IRA, not a taxable account (GAB)

PGF also for financial income

All of these are suggestions. I am not making investment advice. Always do your own homework. Check multiple sources. Morningstar has some great info. The NASDAQ website also. Subscribe to Barrons with a discounted subscription. Any adviser is just as good as their luck and their record. There are a lot of crappy advisors, and a rising market can make an idiot look good.

Almost forgot my favorite holding, ADX, one of the oldest funds out there ( actually a Closed End Fund), goes back to 1929. Currently at a 15% discount. Has an awesome record. Read about it before you buy, :laughing.

Waiting for a correction is like saving yourself for marriage. When you are old and white haired, you will regret it.

^^^Yeah, been waiting for it for like five years now.

^man, that's an old fund!

your suggestions are all worth looking into.

i will avoid investing solely in Japan for the reason that it is a country deep in debt. to me, it is only maintaining appearances

Met mine through the law firm my ex worked at. 20+ years ago.
Nice enough guy, but just adequate for my level of income.

I am pulling 20% out to invest in myself.
Hope it pans out.

I am in the conservative mode as well. Correction may be more than a year away. The Corp tax breaks could fan th fire in 2018.
