Stock Thread 2018

I got out of Tesla at 371.

Musk should stop tweeting. Sure seems to me like he commited fraud with his 420 tweet #lockhimup

I about freaked out this morning. My Fidelity mutual fund I've been buying for ~15 years all of a sudden lost 90% of it's value in a day! that was 1/3 of my entire portfolio down the drain!

After some research, I found that they did a 1:10 split. My stock shares owned hasn't reflected this change as of yet, so it appeared that I just lost my ass, but in reality I am even. And probably going to be up soon enough, as for some reason the price makes it look like it's a heck of a buy right now, even though the stock has been diluted accordingly.

we shall see if the SEC and Delaware want to pursue a market manipulation claim

investors have already filed their lawsuits.

I think it goes no where

Contrafund K? Yeah they announced that split a while ago.

yep that's the one, but other Fidelity funds also split similarly.

I hadn't noticed an announcement, but it is ultimately good news. People will want to invest in a 13.xx/share stock over a 137.xx/share stock, even if it doesn't matter.

my etrade account now reflects the 10x more shares. yay

edit: what's funny is that the overall stock value and shares have been updated, but the individual purchases/dividend reinvestments all look like I took a fucking bath on them, lol. As long as I have my money it's all good, but hopefully etrade will fix that small annoyance soon.

I think it goes somewhere. He made a promise that I bet he can't keep. He has a sorted history with this company. It is also bothersome that he is seeking Saudi money to fund this buy out. It seems if Tesla was a great American company, we could fund the stupid over-priced company.

when i run my errands on the weekend, i tune into financial advice on news talk radio or bloomberg ... there is a warning about being too heavily weighted in tech stocks right now.

the great thing is that they don't discourage you or encourage you to do anything. the advice or stories reveal that you are your own boss when it comes to investing your own money. not to invest more than you can stand to lose. keep your portfolio diversified, that kinda thing ...

one of the callers on one show who called in wanted to know what to do with a $300K windfall from winning a lottery pot. he disclosed that he lost his entire retirement savings during the recession and had been living on veteran benefits since then. claims he was betting on winning stocks like lehman brothers, doubling his money and did really well until everything dropped to 0.

there you have it in a nutshell. you can fall into the perception that you know what you're doing until it doesn't work.

i don't know people who own snapchat but i do know people who openly talk about owning google, apple and tesla. i think it is okay to own individual stocks but not to get overboard and own too many shares. they say 4% is the cutoff point of owning any one particular stock.

Thanks for the advice. Most of my funds are invested in a few ETF's that pay dividends (thanks to a few posters here and from my own research). My portfolio is is looking pretty stable with slight gains. Just wanted to dabble a little on individual companies. 4% cut off sounds like good advice to invest on any one individual company.

i keep tabs on what afm says, i really appreciate all that he offers

but i have not deviated from my own sense of risk aversion. i have taken the advice for diversification very seriously

i feel i am fortunate enough that i have a nasdaq 100 index fund (a mix of technology stocks) in my 401(k); it's been doing well. I have 8% asset allocation in that as well as 10% allocation to the s&p index fund. i am sure that i have a lot of overlapping going on. but slow and steady has been my formula and the compounded interest in shares seems to be working. i don't get greedy, and i have stopped buying lotto scratchers and taking weekend getaways to casino resorts :laughing

Pot stocks getting hammered today.

They'll rebound though as October 15th is coming up close when it legal in canada medically. Mid April is legal recereationaly.

Been a huge run up past month, one stock Canopy Growth, doubling roughly. Big pharma, tobacco, beverage all looking for a piece. Constellation Brands which owns Corona upped their investment to $4 billion into canopy growth.

Tilray is a stock I can't understand. 5th largest overall but it's flying, like 30-40x over sales. It's mainly because it's listed on the nasdaq which is more appealing than Canada's market.

Many US companies that produce cannot list in the US so they go to Canada. If they would just make it federally legal, put a date and then hammer the details, so many US based companies would come forward and go public.

Interesting market. Still invested with significant money parked. Still owning big value, and some fixed income Pimco funds. Still holding ADX and loving it. Best value on the market today.

one of the simple pleasures in my life is seeing IWM and SPY generate dividends on a regular basis in my transactions history page on schwab

do you guys remember when this thread was created? it was when the bitcoin thread guys told us to start a stock thread instead of posting warnings and pessimistic remarks on their thread :)
