Student Loan Debt Forgiveness?

So in a different thread you complained about means testing to get tax credits for green appliances for your home improvement project, because it was means tested to, like 250k+ household income in your county.

Now you are complaining that the means testing of an income of 125k is not strict enough/low enough, claiming a bunch of 'ultra-privileged kids going to six figure schools' are the main beneficiaries of student loan forgiveness. (they aren't)

Can you make up your mind? Is means testing good or bad?

Uhh no? I said everyone going to school should get the 10K not just the loan bagholders.

are the “ultra privileged” talking federal student loans to help pay for college? didn’t realize that was much of a thing.

my niece started college this year, with the help of a $6k Pell Grant. nice to hear they are for-poor-people-only, guess I didn’t realize that, either. :laughing:facepalm

There is a line of thinking that says if you can get a loan with, say, a 6% interest rate, put it all in the market and get a 10-11% return you would be foolish to not borrow every penny available to you. Especially if you have the ability to pay off the loan in one fell swoop if everything goes sideways; it's almost risk-free.

Can't say whether people have actually *done* it in any real numbers, though.
