What kind of wood is the table? Is it a solid piece or veneered. Be careful with both strippers or sandpaper as it's easy to raise the grain with too much chemicle and to dig holes with sand paper.

It's actually a crib. So multiple pieces A real PITA. A table would be easier.I think it is birch maybe. It's a soft wood. I'm taking the ols stain off and re-staining with a darker color (English Chestnut)

If it's an old crib you picked up someplace, please check to see if it wasn't recalled for being hazardous to babies. It's not something you should try to save a few bucks on where the risk is death.
