The Electric Motorcycle Thread

There cheap because nobody wants a car you cant drive outside California.
Without returning on a tow truck..
And hydrogen power has about 25 percent efficiency rating.

It has to be much more efficient than ICE because an ICE is like 20% efficient. Maybe you are getting H2 EV mixed up with H2 combustion engines. I don't know where you're getting that number but I think when I did my research in college it was around 75% efficiency. Whereas EVs are like 90% efficient.

I don't travel outside of California often so it'd be good for me. I heard they are good cars too if they could get a better infrastructure and cost for H2 down for them I would bite. Currently the manufacturers are paying for H2 up to like $10k I think.

Gas is around 50 % efficiency
Plus if you get in a wreck they go up faster than a pinto..:laughing

And they still use diesel trucks to deliver it!

That is false both of your statements stop spreading misinformation.

Maybe my Prius is 50% efficient but most ICE are 20%
https://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/alternative-fuels/fuel-cell.htm#pt3

The efficiency of a gasoline-powered car is surprisingly low. All of the heat that comes out as exhaust or goes into the radiator is wasted energy. The engine also uses a lot of energy turning the various pumps, fans and generators that keep it going. So the overall efficiency of an automotive gas engine is about 20 percent. That is, only about 20 percent of the thermal-energy content of the gasoline is converted into mechanical work.

A FCEV is more safe than an ICE because once the H2 tank is punctured the gas exits so fast that it cannot ignite. They punctured H2 tanks with a .50cal bullet to do these tests and no ignition. Gasoline is more dangerous because the fuel will leak out and pool in the ground.

After all the drivetrain losses it's around 64% efficient. The ICE is much less efficient you are using thermal energy to move pistons and that heat you are giving off is energy being wasted errr converted to another form (gotta think physics).
https://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/alternative-fuels/fuel-cell.htm#pt3

If the fuel cell is powered with pure hydrogen, it has the potential to be up to 80-percent efficient. That is, it converts 80 percent of the energy content of the hydrogen into electrical energy. However, we still need to convert the electrical energy into mechanical work. This is accomplished by the electric motor and inverter. A reasonable number for the efficiency of the motor/inverter is about 80 percent. So we have 80-percent efficiency in generating electricity, and 80-percent efficiency converting it to mechanical power. That gives an overall efficiency of about 64 percent. Honda's FCX concept vehicle reportedly has 60-percent energy efficiency.

Here's an electric motorcycle a hydrogen powered electric motorcycle, just imagine if you had a H2 electric generator like in that bike, no more noisy combustion engine generators.

Exactly. That is why I just got another. An SM with two sets of wheels!

Well if it ain't on this list you're not getting anything from California

https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/eligible-vehicles

thanks.
I had a feeling they were bs'ing in that CL ad.

check this, in the UK, they are giving incentives for low power e-moto and e-mopeds
that's why I am seeing those uk reviews.
I don't see the Surron/Segway, I thought they have a homologated version there.

but it's not on that uk e-mc list.

btw, my friend got one for his kid!

Light Bee waterfording test

I think that's in Taiwan, they are speaking Taiwanese.

I saw somewhere on FB, water got inside the controller on one, and it melted.

Scotty has major biases that get so annoying after awhile. You don't notice it in 1 or 2 videos but if you watch several you start to see he's not exactly a source of truth or unbiased info.

Instead of building 200 mph (322 km/h) electric motorcycles like we’re seeing from North American companies, most Chinese electric motorcycle companies have focused on lower-power, urban commuter-style electric motorcycles.

200 mph?

200 MPH :laughing

I think motorcycles (unless low power) are basically banned in China. I think there is some kind of gray market since I have seen Ducati rumbling around Shanghai.

I watched those folks vblog about China, so I would watch them. FYI, one of the two has left China for good.

Yeah you know 200MPH like the LS-218 ;)

Supposedly the Damon Hypersport can do 200MPH but that's a Canadian bike.

I've never done 200mph before sounds scary.

I am pretty sure Sur Ron has no hand in that they make the Light Bee and Storm Bee. I think Jiangsu is a ebike store or something. That bike sure is good at doing donut and looping itself haha.

I had heard about motorcycles being illegal in China also, my cousin was working in China and he said they were illegal to ride in the city but people still ride them anyway. =P

yeah, I watched sertpentza's videos starting more than 10 years ago with him riding an electric moped. From my understanding, gas motorcycles (the weak ones) are banned from most major cities, but still used in the rural part. The government blames it on pollution, but others have said it's the government wanting to improve the city image (meaning people driving cars like the West) as the less weathly ride these motorcycles and they are usually dirty and not maintained.

So many people moved on to "electric bicycles", but not the ones ur thinking of but rather moped/scooter looking ebikes, back then running on SLA batteries, with people modding it to 72V. I hear a high number of ebike/pedestrian accidents. You can see why from this video.
