The Electric Motorcycle Thread

The specs are all wrong on that BTW. It's 60 volts, and the smaller sur ron is even less. Battery is 32AH not 40. It's running about 6000watts also unless it's some hopped up one. You can't even get the battery for that much it's $1600.

So Alibaba is a scam?

It's just a listing. You aren't buying from Alibaba, you're buying from whoever put that ad up and it can be anyone.

Even if Surron was using Chinese labor camp labor, just the raw materials alone would be higher than that price.

If you want to buy a Sur Ron Light Bee there is only one authorized importer in the US and that's Luna Cycle. I guess you could get them at ebikezilla though.

They are $3600 right now, plus shipping, tax it'd probably be like $4000

Then of course there is the Segway which is more expensive.

I used to see these ads for Sur Rons on Facebook and they were about as cheap as your alibaba link. Alibaba is a website, they don't actually sell anything, there's a bunch of shops that actually sell the stuff kind of like Amazon I guess, but amazon stocks their own stuff also. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

The motor alone is $600. Battery $1600. Controller is almost $500, forks are $500.

For sure these are impossible prices for any level of quality. However, we are getting fleeced on these component prices. Several EV manu's are expected to reach a cost of $100/kWh for Li-ion this year. It's currently $150/kWh for manu's and we have to pay ~$800 for that same kW welded up by a robot in a can. IMO manu's are squeezing out a a micro profit mainly because of the battery mark-up.

Yeah you know 200MPH like the LS-218 ;)

Too bad Lightning has not been able to follow through on there promises and the very few Lightning Strikes out there appear to have a battery design that is unsafe to ride. Lightning is also making enemies with the hard core electric motorcyclists too.

Zero is not perfect either to be fair.

I see Best Buy have the Segway X260 for $4000 right now.

I have heard people buying the sur ron through alibaba through certain recommended dealers on there, not sure how much they are saving, probably best to go through luna though.

My friend just got his green sticker, although I been hearing hearing people are getting rejected. DMV needs to get that sorted out.
Seems to me, most of the surron owners are probably not interested in taking their bikes to the OHV, but poaching local trails...

Its definitely affordable and they got the looks right. I was just looking at a Super Cub today and they're about $4000. Man it's slow look at the cars just pull away from it haha. It'a opposite for me and the Sur Ron =P.

are u referring to the super cub?
I do see groms around (same engine right?), they seem zippy, or maybe they are modded...

that csc monterrey looks slow too, i assume that's a direct drive hub motor, not a geared hub motor. I think the surron power output is perfect for city riding, but technically it's not legal since it puts out more than 4 brake hp per rulebook. Personally I think they should change the rule to allow it.

I was talking about the Monterey. You seen that clip where the traffic is taking off and they're just leaving them in the dust. It's usually me blowing past traffic not the other way around. The Wiz seems like a better scooter, unless you just want something that looks like a Cub.

Yeah, your modded surron is putting out lot of amps vs these slugs :laughing

the wiz is 72V vs the 60V monterey,

The onyx (hub motor) seems pretty quick, and the dummy pedal gets u more places.

I would like to see an e-trail cub using the guts of a surron.

Nah even a stock Sur Ron is faster than the Monterey. But it costs twice as much so it better be. If you could register the Monterey as a moped would be best, then you don't have to pay yearly registration.

If you want to pretend your Sur Ron is an ebike you can get the pedal kit for it. I'm probably just going to build my own ebike from a mountain bike if I want to hit MTB trails.

oh yeah, i know that, a mid drive will have an advantage over the hub.
I ridden my friend's surron, it's zippy.
the wire was clipped though, not sure if it accelerates the same, pre-clipped.

that seems like the best way to go. I wonder if these bbshd kits are any good...

Absolutely not. Buy a mid-drive $3000 eMTB on sale, maybe BikesDirect.

those look cool, I am leaning towards more HP.
would like to climb steep hills and I have a bad knee, so need extra help. :)
saw a luna X1 (2000W) on the local trail recently...

Looks like Sur Ron is revising the suspension on the Light Bee they posted this on their instagram. Not sure who makes it, maybe Sur Ron could be making it in house now, my bike came with the FastAce shock and RST Killah fork. You would think they could give us a front fender, but it does look like you can bolt something to the lower clamp.

Reminds me of my freeride/downhill bike suspension from 10+ years ago. Maybe I need one as a pitbike for around the ranch.

I always thought the surron was running 21" front and rear, so it's a 19"? That's the same as my daughter's little TTR125L front wheel. Would be a neat little pit bike then since it's so tiny.

This article might of just changed my perspective, I'm visioning "bicycle" hooning with the pedal kit and not even batting an eye of the public with the moped plate removed cruising down the bike path and sidewalks.
