The Electric Motorcycle Thread

If any one would like to see the new Zero SR/F San Jose BMW will have two bikes here at our shop today (3/20) after 5:30.

We are having Zero reps hold a seminar from 5:30 to 8ish...

Whoa, I should saddle up the Alta and head down there...
I might be low on electrons tho.

The SR/F is bigger in many ways compared to my SR.

My SR has 250/300 cc size tires - The SR/F has 600 cc size tires
More brake rotors. :laughing
More storage in the "tank" area

I think the most noticeable for me is the tires.

I'd love to ride one eventually.

Are the bikes still there? Will they be there this weekend?? I saw this notice too late and would hop down this weekend if they are still around...

Honda debuted an electric bike at the Tokyo show.

sweet. I hope they make a supermoto version.

From the article:

"We lamented not too long ago that the closing of Alta Motors meant that the driving force for an electric future was now gone in the motorcycle industry. Honda just assured us that we are very wrong in that opinion."

What about Zero? They have beem around quite some time now are they not considered a real player?

I posted this last year looks like Honda and Mugen made a concept dirtbike. Honda and Mugen need to work on producing the Shinden Superbike, they are killing it at TT Zero

Saw this when I was looking at videos about the Mugen Shinden. Mugen and Honda worked together to make a concept electric dirtbike. Fastforward to 4:40 for the E. Rex.

Another video about the E. Rex, looks like a single speed direct drive.

It aint so much range im worried about. I just don't like the bike cutting out on power because of either the battery percentage or overheating.
I'm estimating the SR/F will have a range of ~25 miles when ridden aggressively in sport mode.

My 2015 has a J Juan Brakes. 1 Finger braking. I never complained about power and I'm a aggressive street rider. I use to track day 600s.

Some people complained about 1 vs 2 front rotors. I never fount it to be a issue. The new SR/F has 2 rotors to make them happy, but now they complain about the extra weight. :laughing

The SR does not have one-finger brakes. Are you running a smaller-bore master brake cylinder? What pads? I'd rather avoid spending $15k for upgraded brakes on the SR/F.

BBBOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I think people have a different definition of "1 finger brakes".
I threw a brembo master on my FXS in addition to sintered pads and straight lines. Helped a bit but i think getting rid of the 2 pot caliper is gonna help most. Thinking about trying to get a 4 pot older brembo to see how it could mount up. might have to make a bracket or adapter. The stupid non floating rotor made of cheese is next after that.

A one finger brake is a brake lever that accommodates one 1 finger. I prefer 2 finger brakes :) Bascially referring tot he length of the brake lever.

Yesterday, after tooling around some local hero dirt, I rode a piece of Mt Hamilton road.

And passed a CHP on a side street. And he pulled out behind me. I turned onto the next street. He followed. He said something on the loudspeaker.

I stopped. I had my my temporary DMV paperwork out before he was out of the car.

"Oh, it's plated? Is that an Alta Motors?"
Yup...
"That's pretty cool! Ride safe..."

Cool Story Bro?

Nope, they don't build motocross bikes or dirt bikes. They build interesting bikes, kinda like the VW beetle for the masses but nothing interesting in one end or the other.

Zero has the FX. I saw two Zero employees racing them at an enduro

Sooner or later:

Time to start playing with the big boys. If the niche players haven't figured their path to mass production yet perhaps lessons on how to pack suitcases is in order. Just sayin.

Honda isn't going to come out with some limited edition stuff, they are headed to filling showrooms and garages with their EV bikes. Maybe not, tomorrow but the writing is on the wall.

That's what I say when the big four start making electric bikes it's on better keep up world! Honda Mugen is already winning races with their electric bike. Yamaha has electric bicycles and scooters.

Went on a Zero Emissions ride today up Sierra Road. BTW there some sand/dirt on some of the corners be careful out there, was out there in the KLR last week and had to dab. I tried to see if I could charge the battery 1% going down the hill couldn't do it stayed at 56% all the way down. I did hit 7kwh of regen on the steepest part though :)

How much does your FXS weigh, 293 lb? I'm at 414 lbs with stock braided lines and pads, and it's a decent sprotbile for my purpose, but I won't add the 45-lb Power Tank due to the brakes, and it would ruin the center of gravity.

Here's a review of the Lightning Strike. The rider triangle is so painful for 5'10" you can't reach the front brake, and it has no ABS or electronics. It says 'prototype' but it looks like it was better outfitted than the production bikes will be.
