The Official 2012 NFL Thread

You missing the point: rules do not equal ethics--just as laws don't legislate morality.

You asserted that Mikev was the only one who "felt that way." Not true. There are others...maybe not Raider or Saint fans, but nevertheless.

Paraphrasing, you're also saying quit whining about it. Just let people have a little compassion for a player who will never be the same, if only on Christmas.

Playoffs almost here, let's go Tigers! :party

:laughing You need a tissue for those tears?

Hey Harbaugh, I see Vernon Davis got a concussion, did you fire him yet?

:laughing

srsly tho...man, SFs superbowl chances got dealt all kinds of blows the last two weeks. Crabtree, Moss, and Walker are the only ones pretty much left who can play, and Moss is iffy if he's anything more than the 3rd receiver. Gore is looking beat up.

And we won't know about Justin Smith until each game starts, but I'd figure that if there was any chance of playing last sunday, he'd have been out there. the fact that he wasn't tells me his injury is quite serious.

SF could probably handle all those injuries, except Smith's.

regarding the Manninham tackle: ouch! I try to judge these things by the "Romanowski" factor. because I knew every time Romo went to tackle someone, his intent was to injure them. I did not see the Romo-factor on that play.

However, I did see a defense that was very energetic and extremely motivated to show the football world that they were just as vicious, if not more vicious, than their SF counterparts. Just as SF's defense does not let up even 1% on a play, Seattle's defense was hitting with no regard to their personal safety nor their opponent's. They were out to hit as hard and as they could, and if that meant an injury on either side, then so be it. I don't believe there was a premeditated decision to take out Manninham's knees. But I'm sure that there was no thought of his personal well being on the hit either. I can see the argument of a dirty hit. Though to me, it seemed more of a product of the nature of very agressive defenses than anything else.

It's not really a dirty hit, I think the west coasters have gotten too used to watching flag football.

Let me put it this way: Would anyone have even blinked if that had happened in, say, a Steelers/Ravens game?

I mean, yeah, kinda graphic, and you feel bad for him, but it just looked to me like the defender wasn't about to give up on the play, and was tackling him any way he could.

Defender jumped in to wrap up the legs, textbook tackle was just bad luck for Manningham. It's a violent sport and their body parts suffer on every play.

Not if you have a bonus in your contract if you make the Pro Bowl....

Of course it means something to the players: bonuses and ego stroking. Is it really relevant to football fans? No. Does it really represent the best players in the game for that year? No. Is the game itself interesting? No. Tell me how a team that's only won 2 games all year can have 5 pro bowl players?! Fuck the pro bowl.

:laughing You have an awful lot of animosity for an All-Star game....

:laughing I noticed that too. A two-win team with five players that are going to the Pro Bowl, how laughable.

Yet the Saints who are an offensive juggernaut only send two players, a O lineman, and...their punter. :rofl

Punk-ass rigged system, nice job Goodell.

It's just another example of a sports league crapping on my plate and calling it a meal I should love. All all star games are a crock. Personally I think they should scrap the pro bowl game all together, eliminate fan voting, and only allow the players and coaches to vote -but not for someone on their own team. Then, maybe, maybe I'd find some relevance to the whole thing.
