The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

The #3 QB is going to be Jeff Driskel, the guy that they just drafted.

Ponder won't make the team. Kaep's still got dead arm so he probably won't even play that much against Denver. They literally just don't have guys to take snaps.

Driskel, huh? Will he be any good as the #2 guy?

Yeah probably. They'll be a little bit better than people assume they will be IMO. Like I've said before, I think their front 7 will be pretty good, and the secondary should be improved from last year too -- but it will be a matter of them not tiring out if the offense falters or doesn't stay on the field.

The O-Line can't really do anything BUT get better than last year, simply replacing Pears and Devey is addition by subtraction. They added a former pro bowler at G in Beadles, granted he sucked in JAX but it's fucking JAX, they got Davis back who from all reports is putting in work and kicking ass, and they added the best G in the draft as well.

Their biggest questions, IMO, will be whether Chip can make Sunshine look like a competent QB, and if one of the WRs can step up and become a WR1.

All of this and add that so long as Chip moderates the hurry up more than he did in Philly it may end up tallying more than 6 wins.

Thought it was really cool how the fields now say "Play Football". I noticed when the texans/niners came out, they were just wandering around the field talking to each other until someone pointed it out. It really helps to shorten that awkward first hour or so before they realize why they're there.

Too bad most of them can't read. :twofinger

any chance we can get Kap to agree to move to WR? he's still got wheels, right? forget this guy as a QB. not a believer.

I'm beginning to doubt he'll ever take the field again as a 9er...possibly as an NFL player.

there was a discussion this morning that he may be milking his 'sore' throwing arm beyond what is reasonable. Sort of a statement about him not wanting to be there. Punk may be cashing his checks and then tanking on purpose...wouldn't be surprised.

Wouldn't you? ... especially to that (mis)management team? :laughing

Someone has to have Kap's best interest at heart, may as well be Kap.

Flip side: who would want a guy who isn't willing to do what he can for his teammates? So maybe he is protecting his health rather than "waste" it on the 49ers. This may get him moved to another team, but who would want to play alongside a shitheal like that? It's one thing to play your way onto another team. It's something completely different to "ride pine" your way to another team.

I feel the same way. Its all over but the kabuki (that he is still worth signing somehow, somewhere).

I hope we're both very wrong. Really. But just yesterday, I was thinking aobut his approximately four year career. They weren't bad-bad until the last year but this may be it.

As for the riding pine theory, it's interesting...after working for York and his dominant boyfriend a person might be just that embittered to play this kind of ball.

I never try to underestimate the professional athletes' ability to rationalize "business is business", especially with certain franchises, and age 20-something players today.

I get that. And I could see some players looking at the situation in the same way. But those players wouldn't hold it against him if he actually got out there and did his job. The flip can't be said of the guys who think he's being a ass for not competing. Those guys aren't going to change their view unless he does get out there and put the work in. So he loses some one way and zero the other.

I'd like to hold out hope like BA but I've been burned by hope too many times when it comes to the 9ers. At some point I came to the conclusion that we are a full on shit show until we prove otherwise. Clerk at the grocery store tried to give me shit about the 9ers losing the first preseason game. I just looked him in the eye and asked, "And you are one of the people who thinks they should be better than that?" He mumbled something about being a Raiders fan to which I replied, "Ah, that explains it." The cashier almost pissed himself he laughed so hard.

:laughing

"Bottom rail on top now...."

The night before the Raiders got killed in their last Super Bowl I had a bartender that wouldn't serve me because he asked me if I was a Raider fan (I had a plain black t-shirt, not team wear or anything)... I said "Yeah."

He responds "Well this 9er country, and this is a 9er bar."

All I could say was "Well, good thing they aren't playing tomorrow."

A few of the people sitting at the bar laughed, but that pissed off this bartender and he told me he wouldn't serve me. All I said was "Typical."

Forgive me. I'm not seeing it?
The Raiders were in the SB? They were better than the 9ers back in 2001. And they are, at least on paper, better than the 9ers now. How does "bottom rail on top" apply here? I guess I don't understand the whole 9rs v Raiders thing. I'm not originally from the Bay Area...transplanted in '86. I don't rag on Raiders fans simply for the sake of doing so. I'm not one of "those" 9er fans.

It's been a while since there's been more promise with the Raiders, especially given Al's final years, and beyond.

For me, they haven't proven anything yet, but my 9er fan friends seem to be a bit shell shocked by the last 3 years, wearing the same perplexed look I had when Al drafted Jacarcuss, or signed Moss, or any of the other really shitty decisions he made.
