AFT Peoria TT, August 17

JD Beach
Finishes third after a wild last lap where 3rd, 4th and 5th place were separated by less than eight thousands of a second at the line.

11th in AFT Twins points with 104

PJ Jacobsen
Sat out the Peoria TT which is curious because its one of the biggest races on the schedule and suits road racers. He probably would have done well.

Next Race August 23-25 MotoAmerica at Pittsburgh.

JD has shown great skill luck in the last turn.

He is doing really well in both series.

MotoAmerica Pittsburgh, PA - August 23-25

JD Beach
JD never seemed to get comfortable on the superbike at this track all weekend. 6th place finishes in both Race 1 and Race 2.

JD is 4th in MotoAmerica Superbike points with 179. With two events (4 races) left in the season, placing in the top three in points is looking out of reach. However, JD is 6 points up on Factory Suzuki rider Josh Herrin (5th in points) so he will have to keep sharp to stay 4th in points.

PJ Jacobsen
Niether PJ or his team had been to the Pittsburgh track before and he had to rider very hard to overcome set up issues. Both Supersport races were wild.
Supersport Race 1 - 2nd place
Supersport Race 2 - 3rd place.

Jacobsen is third in MotoAmerica Supersport points with 200. Championship leader Bobby Fong has 220 and Hayden Gilliam has 209. Jacobsen still has a shot at the championship with two events (4 races) left.

Next Race: AFT Springfield Mile I & II - August 31 & Sept 1.
The prestigious Springfield Mile is a double header this weekend due to a rainout of Springfield I in May. Beach and Jacobsen are shown on the entry lists so I hope they both make it. Springfield has longer straights and tighter corners than other Mile tracks which makes for really exciting racing.

so, Steve, where’re we at with this contest right now?

Both boys made the main

P.J. had the better finish

They are both impressive. P.J. a bit more so for me as I no clue he would be so solid.

AFT Springfield Mile I & II, Aug 31, Sept. 2

JD Beach
The MT07-DT package continues to struggle on slippery Half Miles and all the Mile tracks. Even Beach's teammate, former National Champ Jake Johnson, is not making any progress. JD was gifted a transfer to the Main on Monday when Bryan Smith's Kawasaki had a mechanical in the first Twins semi. However, JD did not start the main event. I haven't found out why. The only upside to his weekend was winning the non-AFT Steve Nace All-Stars short track race on Friday night. JD on a short track is spectacular to watch.

Race 1 - 13th place
Race 2 - DNS

Beach is 13th in AFT Twins standings with 112 points

PJ Jacobsen
Carrying momentum from some wins and podiums in recent MotoAmerica races, Jacobsen came to Springfield with expectations for a good result. An extremely fast field proved too tough to keep pace with.

Race 1 - 11th place
Race 2 - 11th place

Jacobsen is 17th in the AFT Twins standings with 53 points

Bummer because both are very talented flat trackers and the track at Springfield was fast with many racing lines this weekend. Race 2 was probably the best Springfield Mile in the last two decades or maybe ever. I would love to have seen Beach and Jacobsen in the mix.

Next weekend is a conflict between the two series and both, Beach and Jacobsen are expected to race MotoAmerica at New Jersey rather than AFT about 90 miles away at Williams Grove, PA.

Late update on the Throwbacks. Sept 7-8, MotoAmerica New Joisey Motorsports Pahk.

JD Beach
Great weekend racing with the leaders and putting the hurt on the Yosh Suzukis. JD lead Race 2 for several laps.

Superbike Race 1 - 3rd place
Superbike Race 2 - 2nd place

Beach is 4th in MotoAmerica Superbike points at 215.

PJ Jacobsen
Fantastic weekend for PJ with a couple of very tough and very narrow victories over championship leader Bobby Fong with margins of victory of less than half a tenth of a second. IMO, this is the best Supersport season in years.

Supersport Race 1 - Win by .046
Supersport Race 2 - Win by .028

PJ is 2nd in MotoAmerica Supersport points with 250; just ten points behind Fong.

Next race is a conflict between MotoAmerica and AFT. Beach and Jacobsen are both expected to race the MotoAmerica season finale at Barber Motorsports Park Sept 20-22.

Steve, in the instance of this thread, you ain’t “late” -
rather, reflective & considering the many events
during an action-packed weekend of 5(?) AFT finals

thx 4 continuing the tabulations,
as I watched PA MA last nite & S’fld 2day

MA/NBC should give SS mo coverage!

Smoking results by both dudes.

I still have to catch up on the races.

Time to wrap up the throwbacks's 2019 seasons.

MotoAmerica finale at Barber Motosports Park, Sept 20-22

JD Beach
Superbike Race 1 - JD finishes 5th losing 4th to Josh Herrin by a tenth of second.

Superbike Race 2 - JD crashes about halfway through the race. DNF

Some consolation as Beach finishes 4th in season points (226) just ahead of Factory Suzuki rider Josh Herrin. JD got his first Superbike win, a few podiums and beat a factory rider. Not bad.

PJ Jacobsen
Supersport Race 1 - Brake problems relegate Jacobsen to an uncompetitive 7th putting the championship out of reach.

Supersport Race 2 - 3rd place in the red flag shortened race that left a lot of people scratching their heads at the rules.

Jacobsen finishes second in Supersport points at 275 to Fong's 310.

I bet the guys are ready for a rest!

Good season for both.

AFT Meadowlands Mile just outside the Big Apple, September 28th. Track prep issues marred the whole night. The premier Twins class had both semifinal races canceled. Racers were gridded by qualifying times. Or points. Who the Hell knows? The Production Twins and Singles class Main events were shortened to 12 laps. Despite hours of track prep, the surface was never acceptable and the Twins Main was shortened to just eight laps due concerns about the track deteriorating during the Twins race. No one was happy about how the season ended for the top class.

JD Beach
12th in the Main event.
Beach competed in 10 of the 20 AFT Twins races and finished 14th in points with 119.

PJ Jacobsen
10th in the Main event.
Jacobsen competed in 7 of the 20 AFT Twins races and finished 17th in points with 62.

Niether Beach or Jacobsen have announced plans for 2020. Beach acknowledged at the MA New Jersey race that he had several offers to race AFT next season but none for MotoAmerica. Its early for MotoAmerica silly season as those announcements often come around New Years. There have been no AFT announcements about rider contracts for 2020 as of today.

It was pretty damn cool of these two to race at the top level of each of their road racing classes and compete in so many AFT events. Both won road races while Beach won two AFT TT races and Jacobsen had one top five so it would be hard to argue they didn't have successful seasons. Racing is so specialized now that its extremely rare for anyone to attempt to compete in more than one series. Hats off to JD and PJ for providing a lot of entertainment and doing what a lot of people said can't be done anymore.

& “Chapeau” to youse, Steve, for coming up with this contest, & keeping track -
while you didn’t ID JD as the Throwback winner, he is, correct?

as you may recall, both PJ & JD were somewhat aware of the Throwback tally,
so I request that we watch who might Q as a Throwback contestant in 2020

all in all, Throwback kept our eyes on 2 very capable racers - success!

I'd have to call both of them winners. What they did was amazing.

PJ's AFT team didn't start until two or three races into the season and then skipped a few events. His MA Supersport team was kind a last minute thing put together by his longtime personal sponsor Barry Gilsenan. If Jacobsen had been on a proper team with a full time effort and preseason testing, his results would have been a lot better. And he still nearly won the MA Supersport championship. Not smack-talking his crew in either series, its just not fair to compare directly with what Beach had to work with.

And not taking anything away from Beach. Its impossible not to root for him. He's talented, funny and everyone loves the guy. I've lost track of the number of people who call him a best friend (Beaubier, Baker, Gilliam, the list goes on and on). Even with Estenson's backing, JD definitely played the role of David to the Indian Goliath in AFT and the two factory teams in MA Superbike. He crushed everyone at the Arizona SuperTT, then reminded everyone at the Buffalo Chip and Peoria that you never, ever stop racing until you take the checkers.

Go back through their dirt track and road racing careers and the list of accomplishments in different series on a wide variety of bikes is staggering.

Bumping this thread because JD Beach won the AFT Black Hills Half Mile last night. Beach has been filling in for his old teammate, Dallas Daniels, who is recovering from a training injury.

Beach has won a Superbike race, an AMA TT, and AMA Half Mile. He just needs a Mile win to join the legends who have completed the U.S. Racing Grand Slam. I didn't think anyone would ever get another Grand Slam but Beach might just pull it off.

while I’m no AMA expert here, I can count to 5:

1) TT
2) 1/2- mile
3) mile
4) road race

based on yer own rally, JD still needs
5) ST

my memory is weakening RE: hJDz wins (he may’ve already won a ST, dunno),
so I depended on yer list for my comment

Beach won the 2022 Laconia Short Track in the SuperTwins class.

oh, I get it , I didn’t know that -
so, if he gets a Mile, hez in!
