The Vaccine Thread.

I haven't been following this thread, but it was nice the other day at a restaurant, someone came in from Rite Aid promoting their vaccine clinics. Trying to get the word out. I didn't read the flyer, but the outreach is happening, and that's important.

So WTF is Tucker Carlson's angle?

Why is he blasting out so much anti-vaccine rhetoric?

Who is paying him? For what?

What this guy is doing is criminal! :thumbdown

I hope he gets sued into oblivion for causing numerous deaths during this pandemic.

Where are you watching this? I'd like to view a good example.

Keeping it far from anything remotely political hit two weeks after shit two. I am know 100% bullet proof. :banana

Reality. I know that is not true and to many people believe that shit. Went to a site meeting today and although we were outside still felt shitty that a couple contractors were not wearing a mask.

"Tucker Carlson was citing data from the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System database, or VAERS. The VAERS system is open to anyone, and reports to it are not verified, making it a breeding ground for misinformation about vaccine safety."

What's VARS? I mean, CDC and FDA something something ... ?

I dunno, should we start injecting 10+ year old girls now and not wonder? What's wrong with stating we don't know, especially when qualifying there is no evidence to the contrary?

I barely listen to any of this hoopla anyway, on either side. It was just interesting what's commented on here.

What does injecting 10 year old girls have to do with what he was saying? And if you don't know what VAERS is, read the first link.

I think you missed the point.

Some of the commentary was about "unknown" effects to reproductive systems. How does that play with developing reproductive systems? Aren't we on the brink of releasing the vaccine to under 16? Oh, I see, don't ask any questions...

Your cite was the source of what I quoted about VAERS. Maybe you should read it again and try to think of what it means? It's saying that VAERS is a breading ground of misinformation. Do you agree with your cite?

BTW, you didn't comment on any specific commentary that you found offensive. What specifically was your beef? I just want to know what we're discussing so it's not just about whatever is over there because everything over there is bad, just because it's over there...

What we're discussing is that the biggest barrier to getting all adults vaccinated is a lying sack of shit who is spreading misinformation.

The quote said it was VAERS spreading the miss-info.

Quote the sack-o-shit miss-info. It sounds more like a dihydrogen monoxide parody to me.

No, you missed the point. His coworkers are taking issue with the fact that his commentary is not based on any facts whatsoever, it’s simply fear mongering.

The link states what VAERS is. I was only answering your question, which was
What's VARS?
, because obviously you didn’t comprehend the purpose when you first read it. VAERS is only a breeding ground of misinformation when someone chooses to misrepresent what the data is.

Where did I say I found his commentary offensive? Where did I say I had a beef with it? Brett posted a link detailing the statements that his coworkers had issues with, but you didn’t like the source because it was CNN and you have a problem with info from that source, even though the same information is readily available elsewhere. I simply provided two more sources that were not CNN, that gave the exact same information as to what statements his coworkers had issues with.

If you want to find out what those statements are, you just need to read the multiple sources already provided.

I got mine yesterday and had a bit of a reaction.

It BURNED going in. During the 15 minute waiting period, I collapsed (while sitting in a chair). I remember saying "hey, I think I need to lie...." and then I woke up on the floor with the staff getting ready to call the ambulance.

I told them not to for reasons I have yet to understand, but about 45 minutes lying down, I was able to walk out with minor shakes.

Still glad I got the shot, but that was a wild one :)

And today I'm feeling pretty good except for a minor headache.

You probably already know but just in case; you may possibly have a common condition known as Vasovagal syncope

No, the quote did not say VAERS was spreading the misinformation. :laughing

You posted a link to PolitiFact, and their quote is explicitly:
"Tucker Carlson was citing data from the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System database, or VAERS. The VAERS system is open to anyone, and reports to it are not verified, making it a breeding ground for misinformation about vaccine safety."

I guess you could take that any way you want.

Brett posted an unsupported rant, but later linked CNN. It seemed you were supporting his position. I don't really care to read commentary on snippets of what someone said, and Nikki's twitter is not really going in a better direction IMO. Should I get all enamored if Carlson cites the kid's Hulk symptoms report on VAERS?

You know, Carlson is an entertainer. Maybe his show should feature a disclaimer like the VAERS site. It could read something like:

"Carlson's reports alone cannot be used to determine anything because they may include incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental and unverified information..."

There is this precedence as well from judge Mary Kay Vyskocil:

The "'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' "

She wrote: "Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer 'arrive with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statement he makes."

Practically all media takes stuff out of context, hypes it up, and misrepresents. One side seems to complain a lot more about it though.

p.s., the question, what's VAERS was rhetorical.

He doesn't need a disclaimer. Faux News has been supporting their bullshit corporation for years on the notion that all of the biggest assholes it employs that do nothing but spread outright lies in the name of "fair 'journalism'" every time they've been dragged into court are nothing more than "entertainers" and what they're presenting isn't considered "news" or "journalism" but "entertainment".

I have a business lunch and the participants said they have all been vaccinated so I have nothing to worry about. Thinking... Do I?

I mean, I guess if I had the option to ride with the ones who were vaxed vs. those who weren't, I'd opt for the ride with the vaxed brothers. But either way, I'm sure not going to be comfortable.

I know too many people that are or have lied about their vaccination status to trust anyone...

I am still playing it safe
