These freakin' German engineers

Whatever the BMW does, it makes people feel good about buying a BMW, initially.

30+ mpg ? Does it have KERS or are you supposed to plug that sucker into a coal burning electrical plant?

the high mileage per G is probably achieved due to the turbo.

yeah I want an M3 too (Definitely not in the puke color) but I am wondering what is the hucking purpose of it, in the congested Bay Area. Please let me know.. why??? Do I need an M3.
There are like only 50 yards to the next stop sign everywhere around here.

The highways are full of commute traffic. You can go.. 65 when the traffic is.. *good*.

Finally if you get into the twisties there will be someone you can get stuck behind.

:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

A *mustang* getting one laid.

:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

it's actually kinda true. Basically the American cars turn heads in Germany, for 2 reasons. (well 3)
1) there are basically none of them. zero. one. I've seen one, full of bros.
2) they've got torque
3) they know if you bought that, it means that you're spoiled by Mom and Dad and have some money to be buying cars that are not that useful ... large body , no interior space. :p

doesn't mean anything about anyone's quality though..

Oh almost forgot.. and they know you're paying large $$ for the gasoline for that car.. you have money to waste. Maybe people drive them only on a Friday night ? :D

First off. Your numbers are wrong.

It's 130kph recommended speed limit on the Autobahn. No limit when 'End of Restrictions' sign comes up (white circle with diagonal black lines across).

80, 90, 100, or 110kph in bad weather. And 60kph around road construction/maint. 100kph on the 'B' roads outside city limits. 50kph within city limits and 30kph residential. Never the less. All speed limits are clearly posted on circular signs in red and black on a white field.

The people you spoke with are probably young and drive a 4 cyl econo box and cannot afford the insurance, much less the petrol. All other older more prominent Germans, like in Bavaria. 'Haul Ass' on the Autobahn and will school you if you don't get the fuck out of the way..!

My girlfriend drives a small POS car and doesn't go very fast. It took me 6 months getting used to Hauling Ass.

Don't get all preachy with me. I have a valid Führerschein and have driven all over Europe, in all weather conditions for many years now. Having a BMW is not that big a deal in Germany. It's like having a Ford Taurus in the US.

That's cool, but 80 kph = 37 MPH. I just pulled the numbers from Wikipedia. The sources are a little old 1992.

Totally get you laid bro.

For those of you who need help.

German girls probably liked him because they couldn't understand the shit he spews.
No different than the blowharded, dumb and ignorant shit you spew.

Ja. No worries. BTW: Another popular American car among young people in Germany, is actually the Ford Fiesta. :laughing

I think 1 is then only item that counts. Any AMG car dominates in the torque category.

I don't understand how one would cross-shop an M3 and a Vette or other real sportscar. An M3 is not a sportscar, it's a sedan-based car. Sportscars start on their own sheet of paper, they don't share their chassis with a bread-n-butter sedan. So you can make them sit as low as you want. Can't do that with an M3. The dash, firewall, and shock mounts are just as high as they are on the regular 3-series. So, while it might kick ass on the track, it's not the same experience as a purpose-built sportscar like a 911, Lotus, Vette, Ferrari, etc.

Yup. Agree. You either want a back seat or you don't. I can see someone cross shopping a M3 to a C63 or even a CTS-V. But not to a purpose built two seater like the Corvette just because the cost is pretty much the same. The Corvette is damn near in a class of its own because of its price point. The 911 and the Viper both have entry fees near six figures now. A new Corvette starts right around where a loaded Tahoe is so it's still kind of attainable for a middle classer. Off the cuff, I can't really think of any other grand touring type two seaters. Maybe the new Jaguar F type?

People don't realize that there are many US brand cars that sell in Europe. There are also GM, Ford and Chrisler factories that build cars designed for the European market only, like the Ford Mondeo.

When Chrisler was merged with Daimler-Benz, Chrisler sold many Crossfires, Dodge Vipers and Jeeps through their Eropean dealer networks. It was very common to see these cars on the Autobahn being driven by very affluent, older Germans. Another popular American car is the Cadillac CTS-V, Corvette and I shit you not, the Hummer H2. Ford sells the Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo and many service, commercial minivan styled cars, who's model names I cannot remember. But the Ford Mustang by far is the most popular and most coveted American car in Germany. I even saw two in Paris and one in London with right hand drive.

But at the end of the day. If you want a real German car. Get an Opel..! :twofinger

SACRILEGE! if you can't jump in, twist the key with your left hand, and shift into first with your right - it BLOWS! and by blows, i mean sucks hind tit to every other car, german or otherwise. :twofinger

Lol. I don't know what you said. But it sounds really awesome..! :love

Trading high revving V8 for turbo 6= Fail. Torque, yes, but turbo lag and crappy throttle response in return.

no lag due to two smaller turbos and this M3 has a way too keep the turbos spinning when you are off the gas so full boost is always available.

what I really admire about BMW is that they always get the most out of their cars.

close ratio trans, good powerband, etc

back in the day I would beat cars making 25-30hp more than my then stock E36 M3 in a drag race.

I'll have to drive it to believe it. The torque numbers at low RPM are impressive. If they can achieve that with immediate throttle response, I could be in the market for an M4.

Don't forget the control-arm bushings every 10K. :twofinger

Fixed. :wow
