This is what a melted rc390 looks like

Some friends saw that at Thunderhill last weekend. What a shame. Glad you are OK. The bike can be replaced. You, not so much.

Flap? You're probably right to stick with another 300 even if I look large on it. I had a guy named Rory come up to me after the 2nd session to comment on my braking. Was that you?

That would be the one and the same :teeth

Glad you are ok and that off track, you came out ok. FZ-07 is not a bad option and you can get a screen on it that will do as much as the KTM or any 300 would do. If you plan on riding it off track as well, you may just like it more because the ergos are more conducive to daily use. The R6 although a great bike on track, can be a bit much on the wrists in commute traffic and longer riders where you are not tucked.

What's the difference between Supersport and Superbike? And yes, I want a faired sport motorcycle. Probably will just replace the rc390.

supersport=600, superbike=1000. theres a diff btw those bikes and a "faired sport motorcycle". the bikes that are raced professionally were designed for the track with very few compromises. other full-faired bikes like yours, the SV, some of the FZs, etc were not. thats why i asked if this was going to be a street/track bike or just a track bike.

the RC390 will do a lot better around the track w/ some Andreani Fork Carts and an Ohlins rear shock. they arent that expensive, cheaper than the WP stuff from KTM, and they really wake it up when really moving.

I crashed at Thunder Hill last weekend and then my rc390 caught fire. I'm OK, thanks for asking. The good news is that insurance exists and Z2 is a school and not a race.

Thanks to Jeremy, Bassem, and all the Z2 guys for cheering me up, Marco for giving me a ride home, and Gawernator for towing my bike there and back. Also thanks to the fire crew at T-hill. I would have felt like a huge asshole if I started a wildfire.

The good news is that now I get to pick a new bike. I'd actually like some advice on this. I love love love the rc390 and would happily replace this one with a new, non-burnt version. My only problem with the rc390 is that I think I'm pretty big for it. I got a comment that the bike was too small for me and I sort of agree. I'd also like more power in general, so I'm wondering about a 600. (Cue "you're not ready for a 600" comments)

I like the r6 and daytona 675. I'm also looking at CBR600's and GSX-R 600's. Just want to pick your brains. Would buy used.

:wow

Holy hell. Glad you are OK and sorry about your bike. You ARE a tall guy. Since most of your riding will be street get something comfortable to ride on that doesn't have you too scrunched. This will also make sport touring more fun and that's one of the funnest things you can do on a bike, IMHO. :)

Rode an R6 for 13 years and loved it, replaced with a '13 Daytona 675R and put a lot of track mods on it. It was spectacular on the track awesome torque, sound, handling and a tad more comfy with slightly higher bars (very slightly). I enjoyed riding it more then the R6 although the Ohlin's are more harsh on our crappy roads. My tendentious is real bad in my wrists and can no longer ride sportbikes after 40 years. I now have a '14 BMW S1000R and I'm in heaven both on street and track.

But what's perhaps valuable to you is that I liked the D6575R more then the R6 and it's uniqueness but I would buy another R6 if my wrists would allow it. I say this for a few reasons to consider -
Reliability, R6 nearly bulletproof, Triumph not close
You can get more power out of an R6 for far less money then you can a D675
Parts availability, market flooded with R6 parts
Parts costs, no comparison
Dealer availability
Endless supply of used R6's with various states of mod for bargains

That's some excellent perspective on the r6. Would the r6 be fine as a daily commuter? I do not need a killer track bike and I appreciate that the rc390 is a great commuter, so that's really what I looking for. I never found the rc uncomfortable so if the ergos are comparable on the r6, I should be fine.

Thanks, Tramp. I don't think I want a tourer yet purely on the basis of looks. I know long rides on sport will be brutal but I just want to enjoy sports while I'm in my 20s.

Rory, I promise I took your advice to heart and my smoothness and gentle braking greatly improved in the other sessions I finished that day thanks to your advice. I can't say for sure whether or not my crash happened because instinct kicked in and my bad brake habits returned....

I was going to say FZ-09 till you mentioned you wanted a fully faired bike.

The FZ impressed me so much at T-hill, and that's coming from an FJ which should theoretically be pretty similar.

Glad it helped Philip! If/ when you make it back out, I'd like to go over apexes and respecting the slow part of the corner with you. Judging by the crash onboard, I think that's the next logical step.

Oh god damn it I had no idea that was your rc390 when I saw the reddit post. Glad you're alright.

Daytona 675. It runs rings round the other 600s and most of the bigger bikes. Plus Triumph = way cooler than the undoubtedly sexy Japanese bikes.

I'm glad you are OK!

I just sat in the 675 st Munroe Motors. So nice. I'm not sure I can afford it / should buy a bike that good so soon.

Since you are on your way to becoming a full fledged track junky....I'll just throw it out there that it may be a perfect moment to consider being a Yamaha owner and being appreciated....;)

Glad you're ok!

What's your budget and how far/long is your commute? I personally can't stand riding sportbikes for more than ~45 mins at a time.

If fairings are high on the priority list, then how about a SV650SF? It's a great learning platform, and a good rider can outrun the majority of A group at the track.

Plot twist, you get your deep fried rc390 running and keep riding her with how she looks

Rat bike ftw

Charlie/SpeedyCorky brings his burnt bike through tech all the time. But it's more melted than burnt.

The part of me that *loves* a huge challenge is thinking "I wonder what it would take to get it back on the track again"... I did say huge challenge

FZ-0999999999

Let me live vicariously through you!

I'll hopefully have found an FZ-09 before the next track day with Z2 on the 7th. I don't know why, but I reeeeeally like the matte grey with the ridiculous green wheels. I want to do a half-dip for a supermoto look.

They will look like this, but in green/matte grey.

glad to hear you're ok, I saw the smoke from the pits and wondered what happened.
Lots of people going fast out there on R6's. Kinda wished I got one instead if the old R1.......maybe
