I have seen a bunch of threadcrapping in the classifieds. I am really torn on it, though. A lot of times, I really have to just back out of the thread before I say something that'll get me bapped. On the other hand, I feel for the sellers who have to fend off a pack of jackals tearing their ads apart.

So what do you think when you see someone selling something like a crashed and rashed Ninjette with a saggy chain and worn tires for almost the price of a brand new one? Do you feel like you need to say something?

What do you think when you see someone crapping someone else's thread? Should we look out for buyers in the community, or should we look out for the sellers? What level of discussion belongs in a for sale thread from the peanut gallery?

It used to be that a nice GLWS got the point across. Now, to me, it seems a little out of hand.

Everyone has opinions...that's just internet 101.

I think I remember awhile ago, someone suggested just locking all classified ads so that no posts could be made after the first one.

Opinions are fine, but timing and venue are important factors when it comes to discussing them.

I am more of the community mindset, where I know that with BARF I'm selling to/buying from someone already at least somewhat vetted beforehand. The price I'm willing to pay for that is that I try my best to offer/negotiate the fairest deal for both parties. There are some people who clearly operate on that principle, and there are others who seem to have the need to squeeze as much out of the other party as humanly possible. I guess if I wanted to do that, I'd take it to craigslist or eBay.

While I think that it's everyone's right to try and get whatever money they truly think their item is worth, I also think that the place for overblown pricing and screwing a buyer over is Craigslist, not BARF. If I see something marked up 300% I'll usually PM someone...or make a post in the thread attempting to indicate "buyer beware" without actually threadcrapping.

Screwing each other over destroys the sense of community that is BARF. If you're going to use BARF to sell things, sell them for a fair price. Don't be a fucking cuntcake about it.

Goat snizz. What a warm, fuzzy picture comes to mind. Not that I'm judging you. Much.

But, threadcrapping. I sold that S4 a while back (you should have bought that bike Billy. It was a screaming deal). Some chick posted a remark about how she wanted the bike, but didn't want something she had to babysit or work on. Which was absolute bullshit. That bike was reliable as a stone, and that remark pissed me off. I pm'ed and bitched to the mods and it was removed. Some people will post when they don't know shit.

Some people posted GLWS also. I didn't realize it was a veiled insult.

This.

I never say anything but I have seen more than a few gear threads where I could link a website selling the same gear new for a cheaper price. Used is used.

I've been seeing a lot more thread crapping everywhere lately.
Thread crapping on a build thread, thread crapping on a birthday/memorial thread, thread crapping on an invitation to ride in a foreign country thread, it's everywhere and it's getting old.

I never used the GLWS as a thread crap comment :dunno
I think some people just don't know how to communicate unless they are spewing negativity. Often times when pressed it becomes obvious that the thread crapper is ignorant and basing all thread crapping comments on "my Dad is an engineer" experience.

This^^^^plus I LOVE the word cuntcake! I'll have one of those now please:p

Odd, I didn't realize GLWS was sarcasm. I've used it a few times and never in that way. I'll have to pay better attention.

I'll sell my stuff to whomever but I usually buy from people who post regularly and I have a feeling for their relative integrity.

As far as posting that an item is overpriced, nah. I'll let the market dictate that. But if I had personal knowledge that the item was defective or damaged or stolen etc I would probably post up.

Do you think I crapped on your memorial thread? If so let's take some time to talk about this.

In a community forum with a known cast of characters, I welcome cautions on sale threads from those of you with long histories of motorcycle ownership. I never know enough. I am so wary of buying used, making the wrong choice, etc. We all risk being befuddled by seasoned prejudices and I think the the current General thread about five or six bikes to choose from is humorous in that way I. But prequalified info is good. In an anonymous forum, it's borderline and probably worthless. But CL has always had that "report" option, so I think its hardwired for cautions.

As for general subjects, who cares? At some point, a person with some sense of self-image might realize that others are frustrated at their constant and unhelpful one-liners. But its kind of an Ann Landers-deal. The people who write to her complain about others who need to read and learn, but never seem to.

I keep thinking that, in the long haul, most of you would prefer a thoughtful reply, even if you disagree with it, rather than a single-line jeer that is often highly partisan. It's like people who quote great thinkers in daily conversation - a cover for intellectual paucity or originality of thought.
