yamaha brakes are monoblocks...as are the new tokicos found on the 09 gixxer 1000. It simply means they are cast/machined out of a single chunk of aluminum

It's already been established why they can sell it at a lower price. And again, superior engineering is ENTIRELY subjective.

my idea of superior engineering is nice long service intervals, and requires minimal effort to do the service.
Well if it can run longer , more reliably , and require less maintenance over that period I would definitely say that's some superior engineering.

Visually, or by feel?
Monoblock calipers don't tend to flex the way that split caliper brakes will. The difference is fairly obvious at the lever with a well designed brake system. They also rate fairly low on the bling-value scale. They cost a lot, and aren't obvious without a close visual inspection.
I wouldn't retrofit my bike with a set, but I would definitely consider them when purchasing a new bike.

If you follow the maintenance over the life of say a ducati and a sazookie..
You will find that they are very close to the same. That was in part to the lower service costs program ducati started in 2007.
Even less now with the free ducati service plan if that is still going on. Yup thats right.. You dont pay for service.
The asian brands are just more forgiving when you dont do those services..
But then again if we talk about how much a 4 stroke dirt bike need during its service life. If you follow the maintenance chart. That might cost more then a ducati service.
