Tool Guys - Recommend Me a Tool Chest

Yeah, that's crazy. I've got a shitload of tools, so much so that my old lady thinks I need some counseling. Or something, personally, i think some psych drugs would be more fun. But as far as $25 large for a tool box? Like Mike said, I'd rather spend that money on a used Haas Mini-Mill, something that could actually make that money back in a matter of weeks. As i said, not too many really desireable members of the opposite sex hanging around in shops, either machine or automotive. Who you tryin' to impress, those greasyass guys in the shop? The guys that don't take showers, that drink and take drugs to excess (single guys that make pretty good money=drinking and drugging to a very high degree).

But hey, someone has to send the Sanp-On guy's kid to Stanford, right?

My personal observation is when a mechanic rolls into the shop with two 40" rollaways bolted together on a welded frame, that is usually the guy in the shop that knows how to fix shit. When you see the guy roll up with the $8k + shiny tool box, they are compensating for lack of skill.

YMMV

I can't find it now but I just saw a meme the other day of a socket welded to a wrench and it was captioned something like "welding: making tools do whatever the fuck you want them to". General "get shit done" attitude.

If I hadn't beat myself up so much physically I'd probably still be doing it. Fucking love welding.

WTF else is he going to take? Beads? Shells? Only thing I would ever take via private party sale is cash.

For stuff up to maybe $5,000, sure cash only. Big ticket item? Bish, give me a cashier's check, direct wire transfer, etc. Sold my truck for $24k, we met at UPS to sign all the paperwork over, he paid UPS, they cut me a check that I mobile-deposited to my bank while the bank was on the phone. Soon as they gave me confirmation I handed over the paperwork.

Sure, tools don't need paperwork, and if you're just trying to offload some stuff and maybe don't want the paper trail...but...eh I dunno. I've never had to deal with selling $20k-$30k toolboxes.

When you have a hammer, everything is a nail. When you have a welder, everything is whatever the fuck you want it to be :laughing

Sounds about right. I sold my Silverado years ago, and the guy insisted on paying cash. I had to borrow one of those counterfeit detecting marker pens from my cashier at work because I was worried about that deal. And I had my buddy with me just in case something jumped off.

Do it at the bank. That's what I've done for large transactions. Broseph shows up with wads of cash and dumps it directly into my account. Bank person makes sure it's all legit and you generally don't have to worry about security.

Direct transfer, sure, but I will not take a check of any sort. One guy tried to do a cashier's check and something didn't seem right, so I demanded cash money and he left and never came back. Been offered third party checks, checks with no address, etc. Fuck that noise.

For sure.

I'm going to be selling like five vehicles this year. And I'm sure one or two will go the private sale route.

Cash is king. I can't tell if a cashiers check is fraudulent.

Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.
Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person.
Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to is a scammer.
Don't accept cashier/certified checks or money orders - banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible.
Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a "guarantee".
Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).
Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing "deal" may not exist.
Refuse background/credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person.

Yes! That's the exact one I remembered.

As for wire transfers and stuff - it was between two USAA members so I was perfectly fine with the check stuff as we both called in, verified our USAA membership, and the rep on the phone confirmed the amounts and everything. Not sure I'd do that if the other person couldn't authenticate somehow.
