Buca di Beppo sux ass for good italian... you're retarded.

It's cheap and decent for how many ppl you can feed. But I wouldn't necessarily call it the best. :teeth

I'll second that.

Niccolino on Tasman is one of the best. And when it comes to Italian food. I know my sheet.

Alright, WHERE can a guy go for a good plate o' fish and chips and a decent ale? Most of what I've found tastes like it came out of a grocery store freezer after being in backstock for years.

Try Cook's Fish and Chips. I think it's in Palo Alto.

Chelsea Fish & Chips is another place, in SF... on Larkin, just off Geary.

Hope those places are still open. I'm alergic to fish, so I wouldn't know. But yea, there is the info.. .good luck to ya! :teeth

O.K., my two cents.

-Top of the Market (above and part of the Fish Market, higher quality all the way around) in San Mateo

-Steamers in Los Gatos

-La Hacienda Inn in Los Gatos (http://www.lahaciendainn.com/)

-La Pastaia in downtown San Jose (italian)

-Spin-a-yarn in Fremont (greek)

Let me know if you are ever going to be in the Central Valley (Stockton Modesto area) if you need reccomendations there.

Now for the ultimate in steaks and chicken wings.

Outback Steak House in the back of the Great Mall.

Don't forget Dave and Busters. Outback is more expensive.

Anyone ever try The Stinking Rose in the North Beach Area? I heard that place is good, but have never been. And another thing...is Blowfish Sushi in SF really all that or is it just hype?
Both are hype.....Blowfish is kinda cool - they play electronica & show anime.....but way expensive for sushi. The Stinking Rose is good once or twice, to try, (the Magna Calda is the speciality appetizer), but not as an all-around great place.

For Italian, we like Michaelangelo's on Columbus, Bella on Geary, Luisa's on Union, and Cafe Riggio on Geary. Mainly, we go to Cafe Riggio when Pete wants the prime rib special on Thursdays. Bella is fairly new and really good, authentic food. Michaelangelo's is our regular standby......yum!

It's hard to suggest food when I don't know the budget or occasion. Since we eat out A LOT (4-6 times a week), it's usually a cost:quality ratio.

Per my previous post: Top of the Market (above and part of the Fish Market, higher quality all the way around) in San Mateo

Don't know too many others in the area since I am not out there very often.

I went to Lawry's in Las Vegas for prime rib, that place is bomb. House of Prime Rib on Van Ness is sweeeeeeet. I'm still waiting for a nice occasion to try the French Landry. That place is supposedly top notch all the way around.

Thanks for the advice. Tried Giovanni's Pizza today off Lawrence. The pizza was good, had a nice crisp crust, and the calamari was awesome.

How about Copperopolis? Gonna b doing a group ride next weekend... need a place to get a late breakfast with da Team-Chaos crew...

BakSeatRed: cool. I wonder if we know some of the same people. you are on the food forum, no? :shhh :p

re: burrito joint, have you tried La Corneta in Glen Park? it's one of those small mom & pop places that done good and expanded to the space next to it. yummie selections and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets approached to go franchising soon. still though, a burrito counter is as generic as can be.

glad to see another fan of Tomasso's too :) so many places to go in the City up and down the scale...

Here's a few...

Breakfast - Dottie's True Blue Cafe (in SF), euro breakfasty place :teeth
Lunch - El Paso Cafe (in Mtn. View), tex-mex :thumbup
Dinner - Roy's (in SF), fusion originated in Hawaii :chuci
-OR- La Fondue (in Saratoga) :chuci:chuci

any freakin' time of day... La Costena (in Mtn. View), but make sure to go to the corner market at Rengstorff/Old Middlefield :wow:blush;)

If you want good Pho, go to Pho Kim Long on Capitol Ave between Landess and Hostetter across from Seven Grocery store. They are currently closed until after 1st week of september.

:laughing What a name...
I've eaten there, the portions are huge, but their noodles aren't as fresh-tasting as Pho Y. The portions are freaking HUGE, and it's easily on the top 3 Pho houses that I enjoy.

Onto Vietnamese Coffee shops.... ;)

Has anyone else ever tried:

Zachary's Pizza, College Ave Berkeley (Stuffed Pizza, expensive)
Tia Juana, DeGuigne Sunnyvale (Mexican)
Top Dog, East Bay (Hot Dogs --- try the Chicken Apple or the Lemon Chicken !!! )

Any good buffet's where you don't feel sick afterwards?
I hate:
Fresh Choice (never feel like i got my $$$ worth)
Sweet Tomatoes (same thing)
Todai (nothing is very good IMO)

but really like that Indian chain "Sarovar"... there is one in Milpitas (Calaveras) and a newer one on Lawrence Expwy... For 8$ it's a pretty nice meal.

Donovan

Zacharys is da bomb.

And Top Dog is OK... but hot dog Palace (todos santos plaza, concord) is where you get the REAL chicago-style dogs.

Top Dog's in Berkley by UC. Great dogs.

La Fondue in Saratoga rocks, definitely ... don't eat all day and you'll be set. Valeriano's in Los Gatos is also pretty good, but also $$$.

And yeah, La Costena = love. Bring your own hot sauce and you're set. The one in the market is the best, but Burrito Real (sister restaurant) isn't bad either.

Anyone else see when they built the largest burrito in the world a few years ago? My apartment was overlooking the bit of Rengstorff Park where they built it ... hardcore!

I can never remember the German restaurant in the City that I loved so much ... hmm ... small, very light and homey feel, long wooden tables ... anyone?
