Track day Tranformation

your much better off buying those "5 hour energy" shots frmo 7-11. they actually contain ingrediants that create energy, not used stored energy.

I find it fairly funny to see threads where guys make a case that you need a racebike and race tires to go fast. I turned a 2:12 on my Futura running Metz SportTec M1 tires. I could have gone faster but ran out of ground clearence.
Oh ,I did take the bags off!

Well good for you:rolleyes Starting out a high performance zr rated tire is acceptable, but a dot race tire will always be better. Take the advice from expirenced track day providers/riders, then make your own decisions as you get more seat time.

It's not about turning low lap times. It's about going out having fun and practicing your form and improving you abilities. I guess I should have stated that I started the day with a 2:45.00 lap and ended with a 2:26.90 I felt very good being able to knock almost 20 seconds off on my first day ever at the track. There were a few turns where I felt i was running a B+ speed (turns 2 through 8) and others were I new I was more C group speed. (11 through 15). But I get another chance at the end of June to practice and refine those turns.

I plan on steping it up everytime I go. So i'd like the bike to be consistant as possible. If I start changing tires to go faster I'll have to relearn the bike.

its contains a ton of caffeine, which is a stimulant. redbull doesn't GIVE you energy. it release the energy in your body that is already stored. thus drinking 4-5 redbuls in one day is going to completely expel ANY energy you have in your body to the point of utter exhaustion. without making more energy, all you are doing is exhausting yourself.

you sound like my girl :laughing (shes in the medical field)

Not bad riding, lack of experience. this was my first track day and I've only been riding for 2.5 years. I've been working on my body position. (check the pictures from the first session to the last). www.gotbluemilk.com may 11th #37.

All I need to do now is up my confidence in my bikes handling capabilities. And step even closer to the edge of it's performance. Then once i get there I need to experience what happens when I go over the edge.

I'm not saying I needed power race tires, I'm not saying I'm the fastest rider in the world. But I wanted them. I want to see the potential of these tires (which I know is greater than pilot powers), this bike (which i know i havent even uncorked it's abilities), and myself.

but at your pace and even faster, race tires will mask bad riding

Sure. But that is some one who knows the track, knows the tires abilities, knows the bikes abilites, and knows their own abilities.

I'm learning as I go. Every turn I am improving, every session I look back and fiqure out what i did wrong. Slowly chipping away at the time clock and my inaptitude.

if it makes you guys feel better I've seen 2:06's on PP's and 1:59's on PPR purchased from cycle gear.

a fast guy is going to be able to ride ANYTHING fast. because they know what to expect and understand how to feel what is happening on/with the bike. i don't care if im running a slow c group pace, i would like to know i have stickier tires. i did a few days on 2ct's and they handled fine as far as i could tell (my first 2 track days). after that, i switched to the commercial power races (without knowing there was a difference of the PR series) and could feel the difference in my bike's handling. i still have more than a worlds worth to learn, but starting and sticking to a certain tire (DOT or street) will help you out in the longer run.

though in the beginning, i wouldn't worry to much about lap times. i am focusing more on what my bike is doing, and not necessarily trying to brake later and get on the gas sooner to lower my times. i am focusing all my energy on becoming a better rider, not a faster one. i believe that getting my fundamentals down before i try to go fast will help me a lot more in the long run. for example, if i start turning 2.10's with bad body position because i try to lower lap times when i first get to the track rather than learn and stick to the fundaments, then im not going to get faster. ill be stuck at 2.10's with bad body position dragging pegs and not knowing why. or going around lap after lap and not understanding where and what my suspension is doing.

Your right and the ironic thing is proper body position, learning fundamentals will make you faster rider. "trying to go faster" (turning the throttle in the straights and contorting you legs to get your knee down in the turns) does the opposite.

yes, but my point was im not TRYING to go faster. good body position and maintained lines will make you faster, im not disagree'ing with that. but it is not my goal to lower my lap times. faster riding just happens to come along with it. i don't focus on getting super hard drives out of corners, i focus more on where my body is on the bike through the turn. of course eventually i will be able to take the turn faster, but its not my goal to pin the throttle every chance i get (yet)

to a certain extent, there also comes a point where you gotta have the balls to stay on the gas longer and get on it sooner.

i agree. And that comes with confidence in you motorcycle and its tires.

of course
but that's not my focus at the moment is all im saying. i'd rather get the fundaments before pushing myself.

My intentions were to say that you dont need expert class gear to run at a novice pace. Save the bux from all that overkill gear and use towards track time. I did lots of trackdaze where the nonsafety prep was pulling a fuse and mirrors.

Well i had the money, I didn't want to thrash my stock fairings, plus I got good deals on the tires. What i didn't do was go by CRG levers, adjustable rear sets, rims tape, etc. Just track fairings and tires. I don't think i went over board.
