Tying down the BMW GS 1250 in an electric 4ft bed

What would you do?

  • I'd not, but if you do it, consider this point...

Problem solved.

Thanks Everyone. Appreciate the advice and kudos. I made it to Canada🇨🇦! The truck averaged about 1.65 mi/kWh (electric doesn't make a truck efficient :laughing). Cost of power was about $220, including the Tesla membership discount program. Handling was definitely affected, as I could feel the sail in windy times and cornering with the weight way up high was more than noticeable. Other than those two things, the drive went off w/o a hitch!

It's been a while, but there are a few places that rent BMW etc in Vancouver area.

Some really great riding in BC, too. The Fraser River up toward Hells Gate and on into Lilloet , Lytton ( which sadly burned to ashes) has some interesting points of interest.

Last time we were up that way, there was way more oil field type trucking on many main roads. Big change from the 80s-2010.

My recommendation for Vancouver hotel,.the Sylivia ,.right on English Bay in the West End.

Did I miss something? Is the OP asking how they may transport a motorcycle in a pickup?

Battery range
Yes, but what I'm finding is that it shows up in odd ways. I would have thought the battery drain with towing would have been weight, but it seems like aerodynamics are more important that just sheer weight. I took of the windscreen of the GS for this reason as well. On the way back I'll also put the bike in low mode as well (who knows it may be a few cents of power, lol).

The silence is deafening.
I suspect there may be a little shame goin' on there. :laughing
@gixxerjeff - You got me, lol. How could I not have taken a photo of the setup from the back! :wow

Thank gawd.
I was afraid the answer was gonna *esthetics*.
It IS a Rivian, after all...
:roflHonestly, it took a few stiff drinks to make peace with the aesthetics... I knew I didn't want that thing from Tesla, and Ford didn't come in yellow. I then made peace with Rivian after seeing Long Way Up where the truck does things I wanted it to.

You didn't. A bit of a newbie card here. I'd not transported a bike in a short-bed truck with the wheel over the tailgate that distance (1,000 miles), and there wasn't a ton of how to with Rivian. Lots of Ford/Chevy/Toyota/Dodge art with longer beds and with GS saying you can't compress the suspension, just wanted to make sure I wasn't messing something up obvious.

How did you wind up strapping that big GS into that ting bed? Did you use the footpegs?
