valve adjustment for f4i, not for the novice

I have already done my 929. It is pretty much the same as the F4i. But thanks any way :p
 
Today Shawn was kind enough to come to my house and perform a valve adjustment, throttle body sync, and cam-chain tensioner replacement on my f4i as well.
The engine on the bike feels so refined, smooth, and quiet, its amazing. The bike feels brand new and I don't even know what a new f4i feels like. He also replaced the cct with a manual ape one. Gone is the fucking rattle, just sweet motor noises.
He does great work and I highly recommend him!

Did you have to feed him and/or entertain him and what not? Coz his comin' over to my house this Sunday to work on my bike too and I don't know if I'm suppose to provide lunch. :nerd I don't cook. Just know how to boil water for the cup-o-noodles. :teeth

entertain me :confused :laughing i'll be the 1 entertaining you. lunch isn't required i'll be feed before i arrive, but i never turn food or drinks down :teeth

I would not reccomend anyone who considers themselves less than an "fairly experencd mechanic" to attack a valve adjustment on a modern sportbike. i've done it on my car (toyota MR2), but on the car it was a bit less complex (but physically easier) because the cams are not removed for the process.

shawn adjusted the valves on my kawasaki at 12,000 miles. bike idled better and had more chrisp throttle responce both getting on and off the gas; and of course the bike smoothed out a bit as well. i'd consider doing it myself next time, but honestly, getting all the tools (if you dont allready have them) is expensive, and then getting ahold of all the correct shims is a pain in the ass.. shawn has great prices - so check him out before you go let the dealer rape you for $400+(?) for doing this job.

He also explains each step so you can learn something.
I ran out and got us burritos for lunch, always keep your guests full ;)

damn!!! that was awesome man!! i'm taking some motorcycle mechanic classes now and we are just starting to work on valves and carbs. this posting helped me alot since we are just taking notes for now. i met u once when u were carb syncing my cousin's bike. thanks dude.:Port

you can use it as a guide, maybe? their both shim-under-bucket designs, but a lot of things are going to be different. you bikes got coils, the cct is eaier to get to, you'll completely remove the fuel tank and carbs, etc...and the specs aren't the same. other than that its pretty much the same....take it apart, measure clearances, pull cams, change shims, put it back together :laughing

Application to adjust valves

I made this application to help running the number to adjust valves. It's says cbr 900 but works for any bike.

I'm thinking about a making a instruction page about how to use it but I guess is pretty easy to use.

It's a flash so there's no need to download or anything.

Hi Guys!

When the shims are done, how easy is it to get the timing lined up correctly?

Is it as simple as making sure that the T on the bottom end is lined up at TDC, and the IN and EX marks are parrallel with the top of the head, and pointing in the corrcect direction?

Or is it more complicated than that?
