valve adjustment for f4i, not for the novice

Big thumbs up to elskipador. He adjusted my valves the other day on my R1, and did a great job for a reasonable price. I would recommend him to anyone that needs some bike work :thumbup

ok since i hate my bike this week and ive been trying to sync today i cant get the throttle bodies to sync up quite right, seems liek the #4 TB doesnt build enough pressure, can this be due to something else?

the #2 and #3 seem to line up fine but not quite on the #1, even but off a bit, and the #4 is way off

remove the throttle cables

Does the throttle body just "pop off" the block of the engine? I can see the rubber peices of tubing that connect the two, but im not sure the right process for removing the TB.

Thanks!

after you completely loosen the clamps you'll be able to pull them off, by hand, with a little force.

Excellent thread! I just made my 1st valve adjustment following your easy and detailed instructions.
Thanks!!!!

(please elskipador can you check your inbox?)

i use OEM, k&l, pro-x, wiseco & hot cams, but i won't use the hot cams ones on ti valves. their hardening process isn't as good as the others & ti is hard.

So where can I get shims in .025 increment all I can find is hot cams coming in .050 increments? And if the the valve is to spec. Like I see you have intake valves at .20 to spec. Do you leave that shim in or replace it with a new shim with the same width? And one more question the manual says something about a strip of plasti guage on the camshaft journals. Did you do that or do I need to?

to the best of my knowledge honda is the only 1's that sell the half size shims to the public. they're usually 7~10 each.

My F4i is coming up to its first 16k valve check/adjustment. This guide has made it clear that I can't do this myself. How much should I expect to pay for this?

Thanks for the guide and all the pics!

Well doing the valve adjustment a shim is what specifies a valves clearance is correct? So if the valves specs are .20 +- .03 and when adjusting you measure a couple valves that are .20mm within spec. Are you suppose to leave the old shim in?
