Valve Spring Compressor

I've worked on a bunch of XRs and own one . I believe they go bad due to excessive heat. Go with aftermarket valve stem seals from Kibblewhite or similar.

Maybe an oil cooler might help.

People have made up all sorts of oil coolers for these. I think results are mixed mostly. The big fin heads seem to be more effective, but only really needed when you are makes more than the stock level of power.

I think the seals in my bike are bad simply because of age and sitting dry while the bike was not being ridden by the previous owner.

if its burning oil & the leak-down test indicates the rings are sealing, you can place your bets on the valve seals being bad.

The only time any oil is burnt at all is after starting if it sits for more than a few hours. The oil burnoff lasts 30-60 seconds. Longer if it sits for longer.

I am pretty confident in the diagnosis.
