Vegan riding gear

Wow! You said a mouthful!

You should put a little more thought into things before you type them.

Heres some math for you 5.5 Billions people * 2500 calories a day. Now, subtract all the current calories consumed via animal products and muliple the balance time 5.5 billions again and realize how many more plant calories we need. Plants need more square footage to be grown. And have a far less dense caloric value. Oh crap, now we need more land.

Ever thought that people mock things they do understand?

Read the "skeptical environmentalist" books = good.

except you forgot to deduct the "calories" required and consumed by the animals raised for your slaughter. but if you were careful enough to do that you would find it takes far more calories to feed and produce slaughter animals than what they ultimately provide in "benefit." i am thinking hundreds of times more. how many 2500 calorie servings of corn does a cow need to produce 2500 calories of meat?

all that grain, all that corn, all that rice and most importantly all that water could be used to feed humans instead of squandered on a few choice cuts of corn fed beef.

of course there will always be animal factories to feed people like yourself. just consider what a more efficient world we could live in if, well, there were less like you.

That's a bold statement considering we are "normal" according to evolution and you are a hippie. That's like gay people saying the world would be a better place if everyone was gay. Get over yourself. Thousands of years of humanity preceeded your smug self-entitlement.

yep. you all get the colon cancer inducing meat-clogged slow digestive transit and i get an extra layer of skin.

Better to have cancer than to be cancer. Hippie

Var, ya beat me to it :p well.. minus the Hippies comment. I like to stink and wear tie dye too sometimes :D
We are Omnivores for a reason. The problem isnt the meat we eat, its the vast number of babies we make. We still have entire nations that are popping out 5 and 6 kids minimum per couple just as they did back in the day before we had all the medicines and foods of today. My grandmother was of the mind set in greece that she should pop out at least 4 kids so that they could work the farm and that should one die, she would still have the rest and could always pop out another. Now in greece, each couple pops out 1 or 2 kids because they do not need 5 kids to work the farm and they are not longer worried that they will so easily drop like flies and have to worry about making more. Hence why european and educated communities are actually in decline. Counties such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc are in a severe decline in their numbers if you were to remove immigration. These countries would all but disappear within a few generations if the current trends went unchecked.
Kids in countries like China and India are getting the medicine they need to stay alive and food production is much easier meaning they too do not need to pop out kids left and right, and yet they continue to go at it like bunnies in spring. Done get me wrong.. i like to go at it like a rabbit on redbull but don't plan on more than 2 kids.
Another side note is that the world used to be filled with wars that would wipe out large percentages of the male population. Hence necessitating baby making machines and always hunting after the ever elusive male progeny. We cry over the numbers killed in our wars currently, but in reality, our numbers are MUCH lower than they used to be.
SO.. the answer isnt less animal, its less unprotected baby making!
Oh.. and abstinence only leads to people with so much pent up energy and anger that they hate entire countries and start wars in the middle east because their wives wont give it up ;)

Senior, you also made a point that I decided to leave out..population control. Go CHINA! one good thing they're doing.

:rofl

But wait...I thought cows just ate old ground up cows??? Now Im confused...

you guys are about to get the vegitarians and vegans mad at me again, and give var a new sigline:teeth

Sinikalsin, you should try the prune juice- the kind with no cannery rats in it, of course.

Why is it that vegans are humor deficient? Chemical imbalance?

I would disagree because being vegan myself I have laughed at a lot of things directed at vegans here. The picture of the steak below is friggen hilarious. I'm also not a environmental freak to the point of insanity and I don't take myself too seriously BUT I don't compromise my vegan lifestyle. Maybe that is why I can laugh at the jokes made towards vegans and the ignorance within those jokes. Also don't group all vegans together because some of us are very different then the next vegan. I for example can't stand PETA or the hippie lifestyle and I don't get grossed out at the site of somebody eating flesh. Bottom line, one day this earth will shake us humans off like a bad itch and carry on for millions of years more. To think we could destroy the earth is ridiculous and down right self important. With that said there still is no reason to continue a carnivorous lifestyle, but to each his own.:thumbup

I put my physical fitness and overall heath up against any vegitarian, any time.

Be careful you can't generalize. Most runners and a lot of famous athletes (example: Carl Lewis) go vegan a month or more before they compete and it's not for the hell of it. There are obvious health reasons why they would do this. I run 12 miles a day and I am vegan. I am willing to bet I would out run you. Then maybe you could out lift me. Then we would be even :p Then after that you could eat your steak and I'll eat my falafel and in the end I won't have 15 extra lbs of waste in my body as the average meat eater does. mmmmm.

Almost all eating involves consuming life, plant or animal. I imagine there are purely synthetic foods made in the laboratory but they are almost always used in conjunction with meat or plant based materials. Ultimately, we all have to draw a line for ourselves. It's surprising how we hate on others when even the meat eaters in the United States won't even consider eating human cadavers or other plentiful meatbags like dogs, cats, rodents, and insects.

Yep. I only wear the finest organic Cordura, harvested on fair-trade nylon plantations in Sri Lanka.

There are a lot more important problems than Sri Lanka to worry about...

Im no Aarnold s, but I run bike swin climb mountains and lift on a very very regular basis. My best 5k is 17:55, so you probably would out run me.

I eat a lot of meat, mostly fish and chicken, but I also eat a lot of veggies.

Everything in moderation, I drink a lot of beer and wine too. Life is about balance, if you dont balance the imperfections of your diet with intense excersise your body will pay the price, veggan or carnivore.

As far as the runners going veggan a month prior to competion......well thats great.....think about this though....what do they eat when they are building the foundation of their competive body?????? ;-)

We should try and encourage mountain lions and bears to not eat meat anymore, too.

Hey - I know a good start - let's sand down our canine teeth so we don't have to be reminded that GOD/MOTHER NATURE put them into our skulls for a purpose.

I used to enjoy candy and chocolate as a kid.

Nowdays, my idea of dessert is one more bloody steak. :)

As far as vegans riding motos: Do you realize these bikes run on old dead dinosaurs? Isn't that against your creed - to not use ANY animal parts? A little problem there, perhaps?

How come anyone gives a rat's ass over what anybody else decides for themselves what they choose to eat? Isn't it just personal decision? Honestly... If you're on a soapbox over this issue or are getting bent out of shape... Ask yourself.... Why? Is it because as a Vegan, you miss eating animal flesh? Do you salivate at the smell of a BBQ on a hot sunny day? Instead, if you eat meat, do you feel guilty for eating it and inwardly feel as though that those who abstain from eating meat are somehow better from it and have the sheer will to deny something you have a weakness for? You know; the ones who promise to go on a diet after eating that one last In-n-Out Burger.

Besides, when did a contingent such as motorcyclists become so invested in conformity?

I could not agree with you more regarding the moderation comment. What's worse? Eating perfect all the time and getting sick over the stress that comes with it? Or eating unhealthy and becoming sick from the lack of nutrition?

Beer believe it or not is a common beverage consumed by runners the day of or night before a race. A small amount, but it's not uncommon. The reasons why I will leave up to those who are interested in doing their own research.

As far as competing, a decent amount of body builders are vegan actually. I wish I knew the names by heart so that it doesn't appear that I am just making that up. I personally know a body builder who is vegan. I do remember it mentioned in a vegan weightlifting book I have. People don't realize how much protein is out there other than eating animal products, and no I don't just mean a tofu diet.
