Veteran Cuts Down Mexican Flag

He was in the Army, but has a K-Bar ?

I was thinking the same thing.

Am I the only one here who felt the vet, after all the ranting and raving, he was mistreating the Flag as well?

You don't crumple up the Flag like that.

And I think the dude needs a hug.

He fucked up should have folded the flag. Also he should have nicely explained why it was wrong. They might not have known??

I think he was too pissed to even care....he saw no one else took care of it *even though it seems a lot of people knew about it* so he took it onto his own hands...

I can understand being pissed. But a little tact goes a long way.Should have took a minute to ask them if they knew it was illegal to fly the Mexican above the American.A lot of citizens of the U.S.A dont even know this.

^true about a lot of Americans not knowing how to treat the US flag...

and yeah..the store owner looked clueless and surprised

I don't think its actually illegal.

http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/misc/ourflag/flaglaws2.htm

(c) No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy. No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof. Provided, That nothing in this section shall make unlawful the continuance of the practice heretofore followed of displaying the flag of the United Nations in a position of superior prominence or honor, and other national flags in positions of equal prominence or honor, with that of the flag of the United States at the headquarters of the United Nations.

what a knee-jerk reactionary!

"Oooh look there is a news camera, I' ma be on tv! Americaa fuck yeahhhh!

yeah that dude that cut the flag down was most likely a raving a-hole redneck and operated in a manner befitting of one.

I mean, fucking walking down the street, a knife in hand with a "ready-to-do-battle-face" on?

What? He took the time to create that association and symbolism to cut down the flag with a ka-bar but didn't have the common sense or true dignity and decency to ask and educate the proprietor of that joint to take it down?

and if the owner didn't comply...then its "Hulk smash" time

Unfortunately, Nevada is filled with these ex-Military types who sit in the Casino's gambling away their pension getting free drinks, all while living in mobile homes in the desert and getting VA medical treatments. I call them "Iquana's" as they sit around all day soaking up the sun on a rock with their old leathery skin and long beards.

God bless them for serving...but sheesh...get off the booze already :|

Funny story...while out shopping for a gun the other day, walked into a 'local' gun shop. Some 49'r behind the counter waiting to get a customer background check. All of a sudden a door opens to a back room and like 20 of these dudes that looked like this guy in the video walked out. Some kind of secret meeting of VA Clamper's or something. Nothing more scary than seeing so many guys like this in a gun store! :laughing.

You live in Elko:laughing

If you listen to and watch the video you would have seen/heard:

1. It is illegal as noted by the news anchor.
2. The owner of the restaurant was out side watching the whole event and had no comment.
3. The vet why maybe not reasonable in his action was clear with who he was and why he cut it down.

1. Talking head on the podunk local news are not exactly an impeccable source.
2. and?
3. and?

Actually I think back when it happened there was more to the video, basically the K-bar guy telling the camera man what he was gonna go do. It was somewhat contrived.

I will add to my earlier post, now that I have watched the video.

This fellow veteran should have treated that flag in his hands with more respect, not crumbling it up like a fucking newspaper. I understand that he was angry at the time, but he should have maintained his "military bearing" in proper handling of it. I woulda been pissed too.

:flag

meh.

how convenient. he was using his holier than thou vet status to justify acting like an asshole.

just to ask...dont you need 2 people to properly fold the flag? i dont think its easy doing it by ones self (unless its small)

Umm, maybe the store owner didn't know the rules about appropriate flag etiquette?

Maybe the vet, understandably outraged, could have spoken to the shop owner about this? Explained it just like he did to the news camera, that, here in the USA, it is disrespectful to fly another countries flag above our red, white and blue? No one called the police on this guy walking down the street with a giant knife, messing with other's property? All the shop owner is thinking is, "This guy is loco!?"...and still probably doesn't know any better....

That incident happend in Reno over a year ago right after Immigration cracked down on a group of McDonald's restaurants for hiring illegeal immigrants. After the arrests, the restaurant began flying the Mexican flag over the American, with their true intent unknown. Flying the flags that way is definately against the flag code, but flag code is not law. So, its not illegeal, not a punishable offense, but basically violates the formal, unenforcable rules for flag display. I personally found the vet's anger justified, but his actions were not. I don't believe in suppressing other's freedom of speech just because I don't like what they have to say.
