i know this has been covered before in the past but im not good with searches. Some friends and I are thinking of hanging out in napa this sunday. We're looking to have lunch and do some wine tasting. So can you guys recommend some good vineyards? Also are there any "must see" places that we can explore?

thanks in advance.

Sterling Vinyard, Duckhorn, Beringer, Frogs Leap, V. Satui (great place to chill and have lunch too) There are others but I am drawing a huge blank right now. I'll get back to ya after lunch !!

+1 on Sattui.

I've also enjoyed St Clement's, Stag's Leap and the tour at Mondavi.

Have you tasted before? If not, I'd recommend the tasting and tour at Beringer. If you're going on a weekend, I'd also recommend getting of the main hwy and hitting the Silverado Trail, where you'll find Silverado vineyard, Stag's Leap, I think Frog's leap that was recommended before, and more. If staying on the main strip, then Niebaum-Coppola is very cool. Francis Ford Coppola has a ton of history and memorabilia on display...you'd be surprised who is related to him.

Try to avoid making very many lefts when on the main strip, as it gets really, really busy and near impossible to cross.

V. Sattui Winery is great when the weather is nice so that you can picnic on their lawn. Head across the street to Dean & Deluca, they usually have plenty of good stuff! Forcast for the weekend is rain.

If you're looking for a nice place for lunch, Don Giovanis or Rutherford Grill both on Hwy 29. You can't go wrong with that.

Silverado Vineyards on Silverado Trail is a great place to tour and taste. If you wanna pick up a bottle of Cabernet make sure that it's picked from "Stag's Leap District"

If you wanna get a great view and take pictures of the Valley, stop by Opus One on Hwy 29. Tour the place and go to the top of the building. Nice view! When you get to a town called Oakville, it's the pyramid looking building surrounded by vineyards. You can't miss it. Have fun!

BTW...drive safe, enjoy the scene.

im assuming most of these places are on the main strip (hwy 29)? I was thinking of going back to Coppola's place again and try to get into places that are ropedoff. :teeth

alex: yes they both have boobs.

Most of these listed are on 29, the one I mentioned, Duckhorn is on the Trail. There are alot of cool places on the trail too. I know alot of people that go up 29 and come down the trail, makes it easier to manuever.

If you're heart is set on Napa, that's one thing. If you're flexible, go to the Healdsburg area instead. The wineries are a lot less "touristy" and you'll make some phenomenal discoveries.

Not that you'd want to ride your bike AND wine taste, but Dry Creek Rd up to Skaggs is an awfully nice ride.

Stop at Seghesio in town first, then head out Dry Creek Rd and hit Pezzi King, Dry Creek Vineyards, Unti, Talty (call first... some of the best Zins around!), lunch at Ferarri-Carano then Fritz and Lake Sonoma. If you're up for more tasting than that, consider AA.

(That puts you near uncomfortably close the beginning of Skaggs, but you shouldn't be riding a bike by this point.)

the best winery I'v ever been to is in Sonoma

I belong to their wine club and I prefer Sonoma over Napa

An enthusiastic +1

Dry Creek Valley > *

Some darned good stuff up there. In addition to what you mention, there is Preston (Lou dabbles in a lot of stuff, but his Barbera and Zins are very good), Tin Barn (Killer Zin)...

... And the holy grail of DCV, Rafanelli, where if you can get Patty to let you in to taste (make an appointment), you'll walk away with the best Cab in the area (better than Opus, IMO, for $40), ditto for their Zin. Only one bottle of each, though, as they're waitlisted over a year for case lots.

:drool

real...real nice..not that you'll ever see :twofinger:p

hmm, it looks like it may take a few trips to cover all the places mentioned. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to respond. If i remember, ill post some pics.

ps: there is no way in hell im riding in the rain ever again. :laughing
