What are your pet peeves?

My pet peeve IS my OCD. Its debilitating sometimes>
I’ve heard it’s exhausting and really hard to live with. Sorry you’re saddled with it.

An actual pet peeve:

Leaving the tap on if you’re not actively using the water. I don’t care if we’re in a drought or not. Turn it off! :x

OCD makes it difficult to get places (school, work, appointments)
OCD makes it virtually impossible to get places on time.

Peeve: I'm a confessed tag tucker

OCD: If I see you [even a rando stranger on the street] and your t-shirt tag is sticking out... I will tuck it in. 🤪

So true. My mother had OCD in the form of hoarding. She was horribly unorganized though she thought herself to be organized. She was late to everything including going to mass. She would plan on going to the 9am service which then turned into the 10:30 service, which turned into the 12 o’clock service, which turned into the 5pm service. Which she was so late to sometimes the priest threw her out of the church.

OCD and hoarding are terrible diseases.

The O's and C's present differently in each individual and it's almost always a secondary diagnosis. The common public perception is that it's just a minor inconvenience, which is far from the truth. Depending on it's severity, and the other issues it's linked to, it can be a living hell and has driven many people to suicide.

And even worse when you have OCD and Hyperactivity disorder. I'm exhausted!

I feel ya. It's been an interesting life. I could go on and on about this shit, but this is probably not the place.

Now I feel kinda bad for resurrecting this thread. I don't want to poke fun at OCD because it seems pretty hellish.

Motorcyclist not wearing gloves.
Absolutely. I had to pick the gravel out of my hands once as a kid... never again. Even as a stupid teenager I'd been known to ride around the neighborhood in cut-offs, no shirt, no helmet... but always gloves! Just the feeling of grips in my bare hands is very odd.

The thread title should just be "pet peeves", it really has nothing to do with OCD, but it's a common mistake. I've always found it interesting how the general public has confused OCD with being anal-retentive. Sure, someone's compulsion could be to clean and organize things. But it can also be to drink, do drugs, cut themselves, or a thousand other things... anything to relieve the obsessive intrusive thoughts so they can try and move forward.
I've considered starting a thread about mental health, but BARF's probably not ready for that. :laughing

Pedestrians. Especially the ones NOT in the crosswalks.
