What did you start on? What do you ride?

seems like most of the people who are posting here started on "real" starter bikes.

It's kind-a telling that the "bwoha just get a turbo busa 'cause you'll outgrow that girly 250 in no time" has either "lost interest" or crashed and given up.

I, too, used to hear the "I've never ridden a bike, but I can already tell I'll be bored of a 250" statements. Not so much now, with today's wisdom being so readily available.

some US made mini bike with a 2.5 briggs and straton... used to ride it to school at age 6 :D

first "real" bike?

I rode my dads XL500 for a month or so untill I got my own TW200, currently on a ZX6, would like ot get an XR650 or similar

My first bike I ever owned was 1980 Yamaha YZ80 - I had ridden my friends bikes prior to getting my own as we had a dirt bike field in my friends pasture we rode on daily.

Most bikes are cool

Well, I had a late start in my riding(at 42), but catching up fast:laughing:laughing.
Started(by chance) on 06 Sportster 1200 Custom with all the chrome and other BS:):). It became my wife's bike(1st for her too), so I bought a Shadow Spirit 1100 for myself. At that point was still looking at the cruisers only:rofl:rofl.
After an year I decided I'm not too keen about cruising, I got jealous of all crotch rockets flying by me and I sometimes trying to keep up with them:rofl:rofl:rofl. So I sold the Spirit and got a new 09 Ninja 650r. I've been very happy with the bike, was a good transition to the sport riding, even not a "real" sport bike. Put 13k mi for 1.5y; almost erased my chicken stripes:laughing:laughing:laughing. Recently traded the Sportster for a fully upgraded Duke II and have TONS OF FUN!!!!!! Can't believe I have been missing soo much, but better late than never:thumbup:thumbup. Now I am looking to sell my Ninja and buy FJR 1300 for commute and 2-up with my honey. Rode one for 15min and I am completely hooked!!! Can't commute on my Duke:laughing:laughing

I started on a 1972 Honda CB350 in 1976. I'm currently on an F4i.

My first bike was a 71 Honda CL350 in 1999.

A few more twins and inline fours and a 8 year hiatus in between.

Currently Husky 630 SMS.

<--- I purchased this R1 from my mate just after my 49th birthday :thumbup

6 years and 50,000 miles later I have binned it once (T13 Thunderhill), rebuilt it 3 times and survived a deer hit on it.

Yes I am one of those idiots :p who got an R1 for my first bike :laughing
I'm discounting the moped and the Vespa 150 I had in my teens.

Applying careful reasoning and rigorous deduction, I determined that
a) it was/is stunning
b) I wanted it
c) it is lighter has better brakes and suspension than all the supposed starter bikes
d) I wanted it
e) it was/is stunning and
f) I wanted it :laughing

I started 12 yrs ago on a 1982 suzuki gs850g. A local motorcycle shop ripped me off on it. They knew i had my life savings in my pocket and would buy anything they told me to. I paid too much for it. They hid a blown head gasket. The bike was too powerful but not stupid fast. It had awful brakes. Leaky forks. Near dead stator. They also sold me a $400 Shoie that was 2 sizes too big.
I didn't die. I learned a ton about real world repair.
Now I think it was an excellent purchase for me.

First bike I rode was a neighbor's small dirt bike.. probably 14 years ago. Had all sorts of trouble and decided 2 wheels was unsuitable for wet clay..

Fast foward to may 2011.. bought the Monster after lots of research and reading. She wasn't on my list or even radar. The price was right.. the specs were acceptable. I had narrowed it down to up right standard with 40-60hp and less than 450lbs. Had a huge list of bikes I was throwing a leg over.. almost pulled the trigger on an SV650 (which I don't think I would have regretted). Really wanted a V-storm or a F800S or Ninja 650.. but there was no way I could swing the last too and the V-strom was too tall. Or so I thought at the time.
I snagged the monster for less than what a clean Ninja 250/500 goes for out here.. have sunk maybe 200 bucks into her not counting oil/gas/tires and all and I don't miss my car in the slightest.

I'm gonna be hunting a Futura in about a month. It seems to fit the bill for the riding I do and it was soo damn comfy! After that.. I'm thinking either Street Triple R/Hypermotard/Shiver/Streetfighter 848 or a Motard maybe Super Duke as my spare bike/fun bike while the Futura does touring and commuter duty. That is a looong way off though.

then : 92 or 93 honda F2
