What have you made lately?

Not that I'm inviting myself, but I want a tour of the yard someday!

I haven't used it in saltwater, but I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as there's some freshwater nearby so I can give it a rinse.

WE have some underwater work we're doing at the end of the month I pet it would be cool to watch it. ;)

I'd love to bring it out for a free no/low expectations gig just to try it out. Keep me posted. :)

Well, I'm really surprised, but here it is running video to the laptop through 550m of tether. Again, data could be hopping across wraps, but it's cool for now. Still need to upgrade three parts that fall short of the 500m goal. The weakest link is one of the end caps at 350m, but a thicker piece is in process at a shop, then the next weakest pieces are the two housings at 400m and I'll get those on order next week.

We filled them with a polyurethane spray foam that we use on the barge armors. I’ll have to lookup the density.

Spanks guys. I'm not sure I'll have the patience to wrap it neatly on the boat. Takes a good hour or more.

So I made this stupid thing and picked it up from the galvanizer today. It's the weighted end of a soil sampling setup and a pipe goes through the hole and into the sediment for collection. I used to think I liked the occasional metal fab projects, but this was no fun at all. UV burned my belly through my shirt from welding.

You might not have a choice if you want to wind it all back onto that spool. Doesn't look like a whole lot of room if you get sloppy.

Fab work aint so bad but I dislike sheet metal work. How much does a piece like that cost to galvanize? I'm thinking of making a nickel plating tank, or some kind of easy plating.

Some day maybe I'll spring for a tig welder. I was thinking of one of those everlast, like a 250EX. For some reason an argon bottle is holding me up.
 
Believe it or not, there's actually a good bit of room. I think it could hold twice what's on there, but the weight would require something other than the friction "bearing" situation that it has going on.

I'd like to get into some coatings also, but it'd probably be hard anodize and that get a little tough and pricet with the temps and chillers. Galvanize is cool because works pretty well and is cheap. This was $150 from a place in Vacaville and that was because they have a minimum size/weight/whatever and this was under. I'm not sure how big it has to be before it start exceeding the minimum, but they do big stuff, fences and gates and ladders and whatnot. As a funny aside, I was asking them about any cool projects they've done and they galvanized the electric chair at San Quentin, so that's pretty sweet.

I have an AlphaTig 200x and have never come to terms with it. Like the Everlast, it has too many damn buttons and knobs.
 
Hey, what do you guys think about the new HF Vulcan Omnipro 220 I think it is. It does all the weld types MIG, Stick and TIG and it is got a touchscreen with presets. I have seen tons of good reviews for it. Trying to hold out until they have a good sale or coupon for it.

nickel is pretty toxic. if you do that in your garage i'm just calling the hazmat people to clean out your hoarder house. machine shop be damned. can't use it if i'm dead

they're probably just fine welders, after all the same factories are ikely making the blue and red welders that cost 50% more.

don't hold your breath on the sale or coupon. HF has long excluded welders from those coupons and in the last year or so the coupons exclude every one of their house name brands and just about everything has one of those name brands on it.

i predict their next marketing trick is pretending to go out of business like a furniture store

Yeah, I have totally noticed the trend of slapping a name on everything and then excluding them from their coupons. I think they are going to run into an issue eventually where everyone says if I can't get it cheaper here then back to where I was shopping originally.

I didn’t make it, but just harvested 51 pounds of honey & comb, my bees made... one minor sting involved.
 
You know you're going to have to do something about those bees. I heard the state or whatever is going to consider you a livestock farmer and you're gonna have to jump through farmer hoops. Something like that...
