What have you made lately?

I also made some silly ornaments.

Did you do that on a homebrew laser cutter or did you do it on an epilog?

Somewhere in between. A former tenant at an art studio left behind a K40 laser cutter in pretty bad shape, and the building manager let me take it. New laser tube, lenses, mirrors, air assist, cooling and a DIY focusing table, it's cutting again.

There appears to be a lot of talent here on BARF!!!

Another pint glass, been having fun with this cup shape. Almost lost this one, I had a chunk of colored line work cane in the stem but it cracked right before I cut the cup off the tube I made it from. Was able to cut the broken stuff out and ended up with this short stem low rider. Like Bob Ross says, happy accidents.

Here’s some vacuum encased cane I did, next cup I make will have a chunk of that between the cup and foot

Why is this thread so slow? Make more shit!

Make more shit!

I mean, I did that today but I thing it's against the TOS to post pictures of it. :laughing

I spent the day working on a budget & treatment for a documentary project. Not very exciting to look at.

Hey I’m not looking at you, you were the last to post something. But yeah... that morning project isn’t what I mean lol

Also I wonder if your laser is strong enough to do anything to borosilicate glass

I took a piece of 45mm OD tubing, 5mm wall, and put 4” long 7mm color rods inside, with a 20mm solid rod in the middle of it all. Sort of like a roller bearing. It’s all assembled cold then warmed with a Bunsen burner. Then I work from one side to the other, heat the hell out of it, and vacuum out the air from the gaps between the color rods. Then pull it down a bit and twist it all up into the spiraled lines.

The vacuum makes for really nice clean prep with no air bubbles. You can replace the solid core with a tube and use the same technique to make color tubing

Edit- here’s a gif of the process. I have a swivel on the other end of the tube, with a 1/4” hose going to the intake of an air mattress pump I control with a foot switch

I met a few new, seemingly awesome people recently. I hope we may in time become friends.

I will also try to reconnect with some old friends.

Making friends seems to be a new theme in my life and I like it. :ride

And her bigger sister. This one is closer to 20oz, bigger cup with a longer stem.
