What have you made lately?

Good looking glasses. Curious why you put the disc halfway through the stem? I find glasses without a smooth stem awkward to hold in hand.

Made a new cabinet with utility sink for our laundry area:

Thanks! With the size of the cup in relation to the stem, it would be pretty awkward to just hold it by the stem, with or without the maria. I really like the way these glasses fit the hand. And I just like the way the disc or maria looks

Very nice work tzrider!

Had to make an 8” hole in workbench I’m building. Hole saws go up to 6” typically unless you go industrial. Using compass and jigsaw was an option but seemed to janky for me. So I spent the day making a circle jig for my palm router.

It worked perfectly. Now I have 1" markings along the bottom too so I can quickly set where the centering pin is, drill a 3mm hole... rout circle. Using 1/4" metal end mill (aka spiral up cut).

Routing a slot within a slot was a new challenge and I couldn't be happier that it worked.

Nice work! That seems like it’d be much nicer than a hole saw or jigsaw.

Some cups I made yesterday, ground and polished the lips this morning. Back in the kiln for one last anneal.

Laundry sink cabinet is done. The space it’s installed in is pretty rough but the cabinet turned out well.

Nice work guys.

TZ how about a stepped insert you can drop into sink opening that gives a flat and slightly larger surface area and you can fold clothes right there :)

Not a bad idea. The sink gets a lot of use and I might get some pushback about dealing with the insert.

It ain't fine woodworking or gorgeous glasswork. But I have a video shoot in Vegas this week at CES, so I made up some microphone flags to keep us all on-brand.

One of my recent cups. That’s 12oz of cider, they hold a bit.

First time using this “Rasta” cane I made. Ended up with some COE issues with the green, if you zoom in you can see a bunch of little micro cracks in the green lines of the color section. Won’t be using that particular green again, this isn’t the first time it’s screwed me and I should have learned before. Oh well, can’t sell it but it’s not going to break, I get a new cup.

I'm about to make some more boxes and the part that's always a pain in the butt is clamping pieces together for assembly. I made a bunch of corner clamps out of scrap wood that use wedges to secure the work. Here, I'm dry fitting two test boards together to show how effective the clamps are. I'm recording video with one hand while assembling the pieces with the other. This is normally a process where you feel like you need three hands:

The idea for these clamp came from Izzy Swan, shown in this video:

Those corner clamps look solid and make assembly easy, but it looks like thy don't actually put any clamping force on the joint itself - TBH most don't. I usually use band clamps when I'm building anything with mitered corners. Ratcheting tiedowns can work in a pinch, too, but the bulk of the hooks/ratchet can get annoying.

Izzy Swan is an awesome and wicked smart dude. He was just in something like a 12 hour surgery yesterday and while he's recovering well, he's still in hospital. fingers crossed he makes a full recovery.

You'd be surprised at how tightly they hold the joint together. The wedges are ten degrees, which makes it easy to apply clamping force even finger tight. Tap them with a mallet and the force is considerable.
