What will it take to convince you of climate change?

I'm having an issue with the peculiar weather pattern we "enjoyed" from Labor day on.
That huge high pressure that dominated the western half of continental US.
It turned up the heat to combust, then hung around until everything caught fire.
Then the fire and smoke held the low pressure, "rain event"
off the coast for over a week.
Not one comment from any weather service I could find up here.
Silence from the meteorologists, worries me.

Have your views on human-caused climate change moved at all over the last 10 years? Why or why not?

The climate had been changing for millions of years, prior to humans being around. Climate change is completely natural.

I also believe people have been contributing to recent change, but how much, who knows.
 
We cause earthquakes just from fracking. I know the world seems like it goes on forever and you can do what you want with no perceivable impact, but the planet is way smaller than you think and the cumulative impact of hundreds of million of people is not insignificant. The water level in high plains aquifer drops every year from middle America farming. I don't know what the ratio is exactly, but it's something like 10:1, where for every year we pull from it, it takes ten years to replenish. We're going to learn about environmental sustainability one way or another.

Of course the climate changes, it just doesnt usually shift this quickly.

The climate getting 2 or 3c warmer over 100k years? Life can adapt to that. Over 100 years? Shits on fire yo.
 
Well the links I provided before indicated volcanoes each year are about 1 percent of the emissions from the fossil fuels we burn and wildfires add another 6 percent so lets call that 10 percent for mother nature and 90 percent for us.

200 years ago I'm guessing there was 80 percent less shit in the sky.

I think it's cute you come in 10 years after the thread started, saying almost word for word what several other posters said years ago. Also ignoring many, many posts with voluminous scientific data that shows we actually do indeed have a very good idea of "how much."

The tobacco companies used the identical argument for decades so they could keep marketing their ridiculously toxic products. And now the fossil-fuel industry uses the same tactics so they can squeeze as much value from their investments before the world shuts them all down in outrage.

And you, good sir, are 100% parroting the same argument.

Do they at least give you a discount at the pump?

Global warming describes the average global surface temperature increase from human emissions of greenhouse gases. We are talking about climate change as a result. One could argue the trendlines in those charts are all out of whack due to climate change. Look at those incredible slopes...
 
I actually remember some changes. When I was a kid in the 80's riding my bike to school, you had to really watch what you were doing or frozen puddles would put you on your ass in a hurry. That was normal, but every now and again it would hail so much that it looked like snow. Living in the same town until 2013, I can't remember the last time I saw a frozen puddle, but it'd be measured in decades. Where I live now, I've seen old photos of more than 6ft of snow and the old timers talk about driving through tunnels/chutes everywhere you go not being able to see anything, because the snow was piled up so high. These days, more than a couple feet is weird. I remember going snowboarding in the 90's and seeing a few feet in Colfax. That doesn't seem like anything that would ever happen these days.

not so much change of my view,

I was in on this way before that, kind of ticking stuff off until it gets real in my world.
I saw something on Ancient Aliens last nite. About Antartica, more stuff thought to be buried in snow/ice there. The point, snow/ice melting in certain areas, gaining snow/ice in others, along the coast.

In my world I see weather changes, what will set the our climate on end, ocean current change. If this thing in Antartica is true, ocean currents are moving.
What do you think will happen when the gulf stream misses England or disappears completely?

He's been essentially doing the same thing repeatedly in parts of the world he has visited numerous times as a natural historian since 1946 or thereabouts.

What he has observed has shocked him and it should shock anyone.

Climate change, pollution, destruction of habitat you name it.

All off the charts.
 
We are doomed as a species. There is no way we will reverse our course in time, (before terminally affecting the global ecosystem,) barring some major catastrophic event.

That's a hard, cold truth that many will not be able to face. It is a revelation that goes against basic evolutionary thought, that the species will continue to reproduce and find some way to make it. Most will scoff and some will probably get angry or upset at the thought, but that doesn't change reality. I have seen enough anecdotal evidence myself to be personally convinced of this.

All in all, what a magnificent run we've made in terms of science and accomplishment, it's just too bad we have been too shortsighted to realize we were shooting ourselves in the proverbial foot.
